I've been watching the (in my opinion) excellent videos made by Applemask on Youtube about the various ITV companies and idents and the London video got me thinking.
We all know that ITV franchises have chopped and changed regions, names and constitutions over the years. What interests me is what would have happened had the original "big 4" (ABC, ATV, Associated-Rediffision and Granada) been given national licenses. For example:
ITV 1-Granada and ABC (weekday/weekend split)
ITV2-AR and ATV (weekday/weekend split)
Would local coverage have been improved?
