The British Comedy Awards 2006

It's back on Wednesday, 9pm ITV1. (Didn't this used to be on a Sunday ?)

Although not his biggest fan, Jonathan Ross is back to present, it's hard to imagine this ceremony without him.

He's apparently recently signed a new contract to stay at the BBC who are apparently paying him £18m over three years. I take it he hasn't been golden-hand cuffed then and that he has this gig written into his contract ?

It's a bit odd that one of the Beeb's biggest and best paid stars, is allowed to present a big event on a rival channel ? No ? It'd be like Ant & Dec being allowed to present Sports Personality of the Year for the night.

I think it use to be on Saturday evenings. There is also a look back over the years type show on one of the next few days on ITV1. I think its on Tuesday after the late evening news from memory.

Not as half as odd as the British Comedy Awards being broadcast on a channel devoid of comedy.

I notice it's got an hour & half slot this time, 9 till 1030.

I suppose it'll overun again.

ISTR last year, the last few mins on ITV 1 were simulcast on ITV 2, as it went into their slot!

My favourite awards show... woo! AFAIK it's shown on a Tuesday for the past few years. Jonathan Ross seems to be having a bit of a handful this month.. Royal Variety and the Comedy Awards.. not to mention Friday Night is still running.

An awards show - live! Now theres a novelty.


P.S. It always used to be on a Saturday didn't it?

It spent many years on a Sunday, sometimes even against BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
