Surprised ITV didn't just cancel the news, given their form today...
A perfect indicator at the end, by the way, of exactly how little ITV gives a toss about its performers, as it chopped the lifetime achievement award speech half way through. A perfect indicator of how the station now views programmes as simply the things between the adverts, rather than the other way around.
I'd almost see the point if Coronation Street was next, or some vital live event which couldn't be held up, but we've just cut the programme off for the Orange sodding Playlist. Are we saying that that is such a ratings puller that it couldn't have been cancelled or held up? I'm sure there must be some programme which could have been cut at some point through night-time even if that's the case.
ITV schedulers should start treating the comedy awards like the Champions' League - schedule absolute nonsense directly afterwards just in case it over-runs and you need to cancel it. Of course, I thought that's what the Orange Playlist was there for...

The ending was horribly abrupt and rushed, surely someone could have negotiated a couple of extra minutes at the very least. Either give it the breathing space it (may) need each year or just record the damn thing to ensure its fits.
Yes, the show seemed to end with Victoria Wood trying to cram in something funny about her career in the space of 5 seconds. They could have added a few more minutes surely.
Never mind, good to see the usual 'fun and frolics' .
Isn't the chief executive of One Tel boring? Johnny Rotten doesn't seem to *impression* fit in wiv today's society.
So pleased people have noticed Ashley Jensen - she has very clever timing in Extras.
Simon questioned how the X Factor won as it's not a comedy show.
The same way Who Wants To Be A Millionaire won years ago, some dodgy way ITV had of getting their show into a category it had no right to be on!!
I was glad Paul O'Grady won or else it would have been a miscarriage of justice! He was the best entertainment personality more laugh out loud funny than anybody he was nominated against.
X Factor won because the final is on Saturday and they wanted the publicity.
The heckling of the One-Tel chap was a disgrace - a bunch of right-on smart-arse so-called comics all chasing after the same pretend panel shows abusing the bloke who'd provided the money for the booze they'd all just knocked back. What he should have said to Robbie Williams when the latter joined in the piss-taking was "well, unlike you, I don't have Guy Chambers to write my best stuff".
As for the end, well I bet Wood and Walters have already told ITV where to stick their award by now after doing that to them. Noticeably the continuity announcer didn't even apologise for or refer to the delay in the following programme; the price I suppose of pre-recorded announcements at night time.
I love these awards, especially for the fact that ITV still show them live - the only awards show to br broadcast live these days, I reckon..
The X Factor Comedy Entertainment thing is because of the laugh out loud funny audition episodes - I'm sure the viewers watching would have laughed out loud at some point during those episodes.
So glad that Paul O'Grady won too, he's great.
One thing I am VERY disappointed about though - NO AWARDS FOR CATHERINE TATE! She deaserved at least one award, she's brilliant.
Also, I've never seen such a big shambles as ITV2's 'Aftershow Party' - almost all the celebs interviewed were drunk (although that was the best bit!), and the presenting team of Jayne Middlemiss, Jenny Eclair and Alan Carr couldn't present a programme if their lives depended on it! Viewers were treated to such questions as Alan Carr asking Sally Lindsay from Coronation Street 'If you could have a disease, what would it be?' and 'What are you going to do in a month when you leave?' (To which Sally replied 'I've actually got 4 months left').
Surely the heckling of the One-Tel guy is a part of the yearly ritual and, from his point of view, gives his company a massive amount of publicity.
It's always great fun, a good way of getting round the usual boring "Here's the sponsor to destroy the awards by saying something serious" moment, and from his point of view, getting a bunch of drunk celebrities to chant "One-Tel" has to be good extra publicity.
I wouldn't have a clue who they were if they didn't sponsor this event, and I wouldn't notice them if it wasn't for his yearly appearance.
Who was X-Factor nominated against? Though funny at times, it's not a comedy entertainment programme and surely the likes of the Paul O'Grady show and Saturday Night Takeaway are more deserving.
Great to see Shameless finally win something though!
And why do they have to stretch it out past the news - can't TV stations learn that if a programme is longer than the 9pm post-watershed slot, put it on at the weekend!
