So now BGT is over will it be a whole years before anyone watches ITV1 again?

I suspect everyone will be moving back across to the dark side.

I'm very sorry...

Plus they wouldn't be expecting to do a pre-record with a fast turn around so wouldn't be set up in terms of facilities to do one.

I'd agree it would be impractical, but would they not have those facilities for playing back the clip of each act during the sequence as the phone lines open, and also for Britain's Got More Talent (the ITV2 show) which I imagine comes from the same gallery?

Yeah, but those facilities would be taken up with compiling the highlights. The main issue would be the lack of preperation, it's aking for trouble asking for something so quick turn-around to happen with very little warning

ITV really aren't capitalising on it by launching anything major in it's wake. Next Saturday's schedule is pretty much the usual summer filler crap, only missing a rerun of Star Wars or something.

It'll never happen, but next year ITV's best possible strategy might be booting the soaps out for the week and airing BGT in an earlier slot, and then launching a few 9pm programmes off the back of it.

I doubt the ITV2 show comes from the same gallery - I'd expect it to come from the other gallery. As BGT uses both studio A and studio B together at Fountain, they presumably have two galleries available - allowing the ITV1 and ITV2 shows to be separate, and different crew to be across both shows, with some possible camera sharing in the main studio. (You just flip the talkback feeds between the two galleries.)

That's right - both Studio A and Studio B at Fountain have separate galleries. I think ITV1 comes from Gallery A and ITV2 from Gallery B.

The X Factor?

Won't hit the heights of BGT but it should still do relatively well.

Does anyone think the X Factor could run out of steam soon? I know it gets good ratings and I love the X Factor (I much prefer it to BGT and its prob my fave show after Corrie) however it will be in its 6th year now and there are only so many people you can find for this type of show. Pop Idol only had 2 seasons in the UK.

I've always thought The X Factor was better than BGT, in production and reaction from the public. However this year, shown by the ratings and large amounts of coverage it seems BGT might be taking over.

I think the X Factor needs a bit of a change this year, especially with the last two years keeping the same presenters, I personally preferred Kate over Dermot. Its also been getting a bit samey with the previous year's act getting number one, and disappearing until the next live shows October.

I don't know what they can do to refresh the show, but in light of BGT's success, this year will need to changes to make the show stand out, and keep it popular.

I think most people watch it for the stories and judges now anyway. Maybe I'm wrong?
