Just got a notification through my iPhone that BGT mobile votes have been cancelled for the remainder of the series and for anyone who bought credits to get a refund.
Quote:
Due to congestion on the BGT mobile app during Sunday's first semi final, many users were unable to purchase or place votes via the app. We offer our sincere apologies to those who experienced these issues. All votes that were successfully cast using the app were fully counted and included in the overall voting numbers.
The congestion had no impact on the outcome of the vote. Following consultation with our technical partners, ITV and the show's producers have decided to no longer offer Mobile App voting for the remainder of the current series. Viewers will still be able to use the landline and mobile short numbers promoted in the show.
Those customers that have unused votes on their app account can obtain a full refund by sending your Vote Recovery ID number to itvihelp@itv.com along with your full name and postal address.
The Vote Recovery ID number can be obtained in the app by tapping on the "Account" button in the top left hand corner on the buzzer screen and then on "Your vote details". We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Getting really bored of the camerawork now. There's only so much a crane shot coming in from right towards the stage halfway through a performance can add to the experience and they're using it for pretty much every act. What does TXF and BGT have against getting a cameraman to actually walk on stage? I know they've got one hell of a lot of performances to stage so it is inevitable that the camerawork is going to be samey but they could mix up a bit with the odd Steadicam, surely?

Ooooh I do love a good but of Steadicam! Yep, I agree they could mix up the shots a bit better.

What can they do? They can't make the graphics smaller, if they zoom out, you'll say you can't see the acts, so it's a no win situation...
Talking of camera shots noticed on a few of the dance acts in the voting package the graphics almost completely obscure the act performing.

I also miss the opening titles.
Still got a semi final show from Series 2 on my laptop, Ant And Dec do the 'last night' intro bit from the edit suite and the director yells 'Roll VTR!'
Also the judges come down from the audience rather than from behind the main stage screen
On the particular episode I have the actual performances and results are all rolled into the same show, not sure at what point they moved to having the break between performance show and results show?
Talking of the results part, rather than eliminating the acts one by one like they are this series (With the odd 'you are in the Top 3') they just announce the winner going straight through then the two acts going to the judges vote.
With the 3 judge format back then, there was no opportunity to deadlock (unless a judge refused to vote I guess?)

Is it not being used as a filler, agree, but that's probably the use of it.
Wouldn't it make sense if the vt showing how much the acts wanted to go through, should be showed before the live performance music?
Seeming as though voting closes AFTER the performance and before the VT

It's always been used generally just before the results, and really people telling you how much they want to win it isn't going to change how someone votes.
Another good show tonight and IMO the best semi-final line up ever with practically zero duff acts (even the dodgy Dalek wasn't that bad compared to some acts from previous years - Darth Vadar anyone!). A really strong (and young) final line up, though wish they'd revealed the wildcard tonight, but I'd be surprised if it goes to anyone other than Twist & Pulse Dance Company.
One thing they don't seem to have thought about though is if Aquabatique can't perform on the BGT stage, surely they won't be able to perform on the Royal Variety stage. I can't see them asking the Queen to step outside for the performance.

I was hoping they would get at least one 'buzz' to see how they would have shown it on screen. The 'tension' lights for their judges comments was also quite odd as it isn't used for any of the other acts.

According to their website, the act can be varied depending on the size of the pool available so therefore that issue doesn't apply, as long as it's got water in it they can work with it.
It may have been an artistic choice or a production choice to have an act outside the BGT studio, but the Royal Variety stage is a different production and not BGT's problem.
