I really don't like the jumping between cities, especially with the varying judge line ups, but do think the talent seems stronger than last year. I do wonder if Amanda hadn't been pregnant whether they'd have ditched her as she does seem surplus to requirements this year.

For me, having The Voice to compare it to has shown up how cluttered BGT is. As you say there's the constant chopping and changing between cities, there's vox pops and behind the scenes nonsense as well as the usual phone in competitions and ad breaks interrupting proceedings.

The live editions should eliminate most of these though

Yeh, I didn't enjoy the flow of the BGT auditions this year, all these cut-scenes / behind the scenes of acts coming up was completely unnecessary and made it look a mess.

One thing I hated was the excessive Hollywood trailer style openings with a faux documentary style! What happened to just using the opening titles?!

They seem to have really cut back on the use of the titles this year. In the auditions you only had a short version and for the first live show last night, you didn't have any titles at all IIRC because of the musical intro. I'm sure in all previous years on the live shows you'd get Ant & Dec in the gallery, ending with "cue titles" or am I just imaging that?

No you're right. But they've changed the structure so it was inevitable they would change that at some point. It was cheesy and cringeworthy but I still enjoyed it. Its just lighthearted entertainment and it reminded me of the sketches they used to do at the start of Pop Idol.

Just in response to a previous poster, I quite liked the new auditions structure, it felt more fly on the wall and it was a nice new take on it. They took it too far sometimes though, for example following The Loveable Rogues in their car.

I'm sure it's been said before over the years but I've forgotten the reason so I'll ask again: Why does BGT have 2 Cue dots when going into commercial breaks?

One's national and one's regional

It's the same with most of their live primetime programmes

One is to cue the sponsorship bumper (presumably from ITV playout), the other is to cue the adverts (from the various playout centres - UTV, STV, ITV etc). I'd have thought that the first cue dot is also useful for Ireland who won't have the Virgin Media sponsorship

I liked the behind the scenes stuff and them relying less on the narrator and more on pure footage - but don't see why they had to continually cut from auditions to auditions. It wouldn't have been so bad if the panel was consistent, but it wasn't. Also noticed on Saturday Ant did all the narration and actually the runner seemed to feature more than Dec.

The right result tonight, though Jonathan and Charlotte getting too much praise IMO - and she is better than him IMO. Surprised Paige was in the top three - thought it would be the final three acts for sure. Looks like the crap arrives tomorrow though - from the promo only Twist & Pulse Dance Company and Loveable Rogues stand out for the right reasons so I expect they'll progress.

Am I the only person who has noticed lots of pieces of confetti falling at the wrong points during the show this year? At first I wasn't sure what it was, but it seems to fall even on the acts where it is not required. Its happened every night so far this week and looks plain odd.

Then again I may just be a bit OCD...... Laughing
