One thing that annoys about BGT, is that it includes singers. Surely there are enough singing contest on TV already-- it think it would better if they had any other act apart from singers maybe?

Because people who can sing well are talented.

Roger never said they arent! I agree with him, there are more than enough singing contests these days it would be nice if a different act entirely won BGT.

My fave act tonight the performing dog - Gin I think she was called? The judges kept referring to the dog as "he" - why do people always do that!

Yes, thanks, that's what I did mean Cool

I know the point of BGT is variety, but equally there are already enough shows catering for aspiring singers. I felt last year's BGT was dominated by singers (Paul Potts and that little girl whose name has already escaped me). I just feel it would've been nice for another type of act to win rather, than yet another Cowell singing stooge.

My point was, of all the talent-scout shows that have been on the past few years, how many have not been singing competitions? That's why I think BGT ought to bar singers.

Or would barring singers from BGT prevent Simon Cowell cashing on some more easy record deals? Wink

I think they need the singers though to hook the audience in - not sure it would have been so successful without them.

And if the public vote for them to win, that's what the public wants. Saturday only really featured one or two serious singing acts - and on Sunday it was the dog most people were talking about, not them.

Connie Talbot.

A good start to the series I think, that 12 year old boy singing Pie Jesu was fantastic. Reminded me of myself as a youngster.

I agree totally, thats why I wouldnt like to see another singer win this series.

It's difficult to draw the line though. Like the Boyzone act on Saturday - that was singing, but wasn't a singing act - and things like the big choir groups and that brilliant puppet choir they had last year.

Fair enough, but it's only been one episode-- who's to say singers won't dominate again? Doesn't help that you've got a music magnate on the panel!!

True if the public want it, they'll vote for it, which is why I think singers should be barred on BGT; so viewers can't vote for singers all the time, and give other types of entertainment a chance instead-- we have plenty of singing contests already.

Otherwise BGT is in danger of becoming X-Factor lite like it did last year. Paul Potts deserved to win granted, but I felt that there were far more talented people than Connie; it was clear Simon kept praising her, so she's become record deal fodder for him.

As you say, the problem is how do you distinguish-- that bloke from Hull-- singer or comedian? However I would exercise common sense; I would say he's a comic act, being parodic rather than singing 'properly'-- he wouldn't appear on serious singing contest such as X Factor or Maria Will Do Anything to Solve A Problem Like Joseph for instance.

Yeah the bloke from Hull is clearly a comedy act not a singer. They would have to use their judgement when deciding if it was a singing act or not!

You'd probably then end up with loads of bad singers trying to pass themselves off as comic acts - and then it really would turn into an episode of The X Factor.

I wonder how different things might have been if this was picked up a couple of years earlier when Paul O'Grady did the pilot. Fern Britton was on the judging panel, though don't know if that was with Piers and Simon or someone else. I think though she'd probably be better than Amanda Holden.

Well 2 episodes in and it peaked last week.
I'm tipping Scala to win. I've put my 50p bet on at William Hill. Seriously though they are pretty damned good. I'm looking forward to hearing more from them.

Oh that pocket poppet comedian tonight was pretty good. A bit of a precocious stage skool brat type. With the right material and Ant nd Decs agent he could do well.

The panel for the pilot was Piers, Simon and Fern.

I would have loved to see the Bar Wizards win last year. They were the most talented non-singers in the competition.

And singers might hook the audience in, but they don't always hook the judges in. I found this gem from America's version of the show.
