Producers 'to blame' for Britain's Got Talent exit

Whilst the article is from the artists side it was interesting to note the apparent involvement of the production team..

Excellent rating and audience share for Britain's Got Talent last night, the highest yet I think: 11.4m (50%), I predict 12.7m for the results tonight.

A 50% share in unheard of thesedays. It's not often ratings actually increase once Coronation Street finishes!

The final tonight should be a candidate for the highest rated programme of the year, though after a week of shows at 8.30pm/9pm, a 6.50pm start seems really early.

On reflection too I think the structure of the series has worked well this year, having the auditions weekly but keeping the semi-finals across one week - it's made the live shows much more of an event.

My only criticism would be perhaps there wasn't quite enough talent to make up 40 semi-finalists - I think perhaps cutting back to four semis next year, with three from each through to the final, might be a bit better. On the other hand though the way these shows work if the number of semi-finalists was cut, it wouldn't necessarily be the worst acts getting the boot.

They seem to have employed the Eurovision technique of putting acts they want to win in the second half of the show.

My views?

01 - Cheeky Monkeys
They do have the "cute" factor - but is that really what people want? Liked the routine - although the whole thing was slightly nauseating.

02 - Andrew Muir
Out of tune, and a fairly boring and lifeless performance. Murdered Imagine.

03 - Kate and Gin
Very nice. Loved the relationship they share, and a nice contrast to dancers and singers who litter the show. Fun.

04 - Nemesis
Tight choreography, they also have a fantastic relationship with each other, and that's evident in their dancing.

05 - Strike
Exciting, but they weren't as tight as I thought they would be, and the cartoon sound effects were unnecessary.

06 - Andrew Johnston
Did what boy trebles in cathedrals across the country wish they could do, if only they had a decent enough sob story. OK, he gets bullied, join the club! What happens when his voice breaks as well? If it breaks before the RVP then he's toast. A good performance, but one wonders whether it will be like that in 6 months' time.

07 - George Sampson
Well, he's certainly got the young girl vote. Many of my friends have been fantasising about marrying him, and he's won the cute demographic. Must say, it was a powerful performance. But the most visually impressive bit of it was the shower. And that, I think, shaped most of the act.

08 - Faryl Smith
Sang 'Ave Maria'. A very rough voice, still untrained, almost like they're trying to force an old voice out of a young girl. Nice performance, and can see why they chose that song, but still... is she ready?

09 - Escala
Doing nothing that Bond haven't done before, except with a few small dance steps. Piers raved on about their originality, but even their playing wasn't technically wonderful - listening closely, the bows sounded fairly rough against the strings. I wonder how you can make electric instruments sound de-tuned?!

10 - Signature
Great fun, although I thought the extra people were a bit indulgent - the fabness of the act was that it was just two random Indian guys. The addition of people was a bit like making the New Numa video - just a bit unnecessary and ruined the original magic a bit.

So, who should win? Kate and Gin, Nemesis or Signature. Who WILL win? Faryl Smith, George Sampson, Andrew Johnston or Escala.

Again, all of this purely my opinion - what do the fine ladies and gents of TVF think?

Also - interesting to note that all 5 performances in the final half of the show were winners of the public vote. All 5 at the start were put through after judges' deliberation.

My points, MF-style:
1 poäng till Cheeky Monkeys.
2 poäng till Escala.
4 poäng till Andrew Johnston.
6 poäng till Faryl Smith.
8 poäng till George Sampson.
10 poäng till Kate och Gin.

OCH 12 poäng gå till Signature!

It's interesting to note as well that Andrew Muir tonight said that the song he sang was not his decision. If the production team are getting involved in shaping what the acts do surely this defeats the object of the programme as the acts aren't showing their full potential talent? Confused
Seems wrong to me

Simon's explanation on ITV2 was that it was on his song list, but I agree that in a show like this the final decision should be left with the act.

Also George and Faryl did different acts to what had been said earlier in the week - they said Faryl would do Amazing Grace and George would be performing to two songs being fused together.

The problem with the final is they generally repeat a performance from earlier, and I guess it's a catch 22 situation. I was quite disappointed George did exactly the same as a few days ago - I didn't think he'd be able to top that, but I thought at least he'd try.

Andrew Johnson is back in contention I think - having some confidence on stage really makes a difference. I'd say it's between him and Escala, but I think Strike might have an outside chance.

P.S. Charlie - can you edit the annoyingly long link please?

Totally a close call, but on the view of the British public, I have a feeling Faryl might edge it.

GEORGE!

NOT a singer, and there wasn't even a singer in the last two.

This pleases me.

As gutted as I am to see Signature lose at 2nd, I am pleased for George, and the fact he isn't a singer pleases me.

There was a report saying how Andrew emphasised on his sob story getting bullied - but apparently he was referring to the fact he got bullied years ago. Don't know if this is true or not, but at least the results were good.

See you next year, BGT! Very Happy

I bet the stage crew loved that result. Quite funny seeing them all come on to stage carrying a rolled up carpet!

Good winner and also I'm sure it's not the last we've seen of the runners up either
