I think the last thing that XF needs is a quick turnaround Covid commission.

If it is to come back it needs a longer break.

Just started over in the US - The Masked Dancer, which is doing OK business for Fox

Yes, it's a variation on a theme, but it could fill a gap - still 5 months before BGT was supposed to air, so enough time to book Bovington and make the costumes and masks.

I cannot see ITV commissioning BGT best of shows, that was acceptable when production of all TV was on hold but it’s not acceptable now.

My guess is that it’ll be a few gameshows that fill in the gap. ITV have one that’s looking for contestants at the moment called The Money Shot so that’s likely for Saturdays

Hardly suprised, almost impossible to produce atm. Strictly and DOI benefit from their celeb casts making it much easier to manage.

Think they'll still go for a big week in May. ITV commissioned 'The Money Shot' earlier this week (https://www.itv.com/beontv/articles/the-money-shot) with a £250k prize - not really clear what the format is but with that prize it sounds suitable for 'event-style'. Wouldn't be suprised if we get a week of WWTBAM or BTC either.

They also have The 100% Club I think it’s called, hosted by Lee Mack.

There’s 2 and a half months before BGT would start.

I think the production was postponed on that but I guess may restart. (Edit: restarting in April apparently)

How about Celebrity Lingo? 😀

Yes, fair point - but I was thinking more of the gap plugging for live finals week - rather than the whole heats and finals week run of BGT

It has already been three years since the last main series and IMO considering ITV are contracted to make one more series doing it as a "Covid" commission may be less risky (and far cheaper) than waiting until things return to some sort of normality.

Keep it simple - three judges, three categories, three acts in each. If groups can't be done make it Boys/Girls/Overs - if they can take it back to the original format of 16-24s. Over 25s and Groups. Strip out the middle rounds (Boot Camp/Six Chair Challenge/Judges Houses) in favour of a live viewers selection show (choose 3 from 8-10 finalists) and it has a chance. If it works there are no losers, if it doesn't I'm sure ITV will be thankful to be done with it.

The contestant call-out for Alan Carr's Epic Gameshow says they're planning to film in March/April, so a fast turnaround on that could see it on air in April. That paired with In For a Penny (in the can) and Family Fortunes (has received a big order and can be turned around quickly) could make for a respectable (if not particularly exciting) schedule that keeps them ticking over.

Not sure when The 1% Club is planned to air, or The Money Shot, but those are options along with Beat The Chasers or Millionaire for the live week. They've got time to pull something together.

As for BGT best ofs, I could see them doing one or two but not a full series of them.

But that fails to understand why they aren't doing BGT - the audition process is just impossible in the current circumstances. BGT managed to do their finals last year because it was possible (though still difficult, I imagine) to test/bubble 45 acts and ensure they were being safe. If you're holding auditions it's impossible for ITV to ensure that people are actually from the same household or bubble (especially for the groups), very difficult to hold a day of auditions and you certainly can't have waiting areas like normal, and no matter where you hold the auditions it'd be hard to justify anyone travelling to them either. Strictly and DOI have managed (like the BGT finals did because they already had a complete line-up) because they're produced with a set cast.
