Obviously exceptional circumstances at play here because of the gap between auditions and performance shows but I think it proved it just doesn't work weekly as all momentum as an 'event' is lost. So a useful exercise in that respect as BGT is often floated as a potential replacement for X Factor in the Autumn. I also think that Simon is missed more from BGT than X Factor to be honest.
I know that X Factor was always due to be rested this year, but hopefully it gets a longer break. The Little Mix show has demonstrated that straight singing talent shows are practically dead unless you put a twist on it like The Masked Singer.
I wouldn't be against the BGT audition shows airing Sept/Oct then the live shows in October half term next year if it makes doing the audition shows with an audience more likely. That still gives the winner a month or so to prepare for the RVP. I do agree it works better as a week of live shows than weekly, and although I agree if Simon only did one show it would probably be better if it was BGT, I think both can thrive without him on screen.
I just think now although the show does very well for ITV in the Spring their first two quarters are top heavy with The Masked Singer, Dancing on Ice, The Voice and BGT. Moving BGT could avoid The Masked Singer and The Voice airing on the same night by pushing The Voice back a couple of months, and then BGT airing in the autumn probably works better for ITV at the moment, although they would need sufficient time between the end of the live shows and beginning of I'm a Celebrity in order to keep Ant and Dec on board.
BGT going to the Autumn would leave a massive hole in the Spring so the chances of it moving are very slim if not zero as The Voice simply isn't strong enough as a show to take its place.
I imagine Game of Talents which ITV recently commissioned from Thames will be for Autumn 2021.
I think Amanda is the most ‘replaceable’. David gets the younger kids viewers in (his books are very well-known), and I think Alesha is a good enough judge.
Wouldn't they still be filming the BGT auditions around January time (in normal circumstances of course)? Presumably they film on Sundays but perhaps not

I think five judges isn’t too bad of an idea.
I dunno though, with her Heart Breakfast gig - Amanda is probably more desirable to keep over Alesha.

Alesha managed to do the auditions at the same time as The Greatest Dancer live shows in February so I'm sure they'd manage to work it out.

Yeah, I think that's probably true. Amanda has more going on outside of the show, and probably does add value in her own way. I'm not sure the show would be quite the same without her. I say that - the right replacement could do a better job.
Alesha has been a good judge, her comments are usually constructive but occasionally a bit bland. She went down well on AGT Champions earlier in the year, perhaps she could get a full time gig on AGT if she left BGT - she'd be a vast improvement on Heidi Klum.

Yep, I think X Factor needs a break until at least 2022. Possibly longer, enough time to build nostalgia. When it does return, I think they'd need some new faces on it too, mixed in with maybe one or two returns.
Agree this scheduling has proved that BGT wouldn't work as an X Factor replacement. If they moved the whole series to Sept/Oct it would probably work better but they'd still be dodging Strictly and there would only be one winner in that clash.
If there's any of ITV's H1 shows to try in the Autumn it would be The Voice. I'm not sure it could survive the move, but it airs at 8.30pm or so anyway, so if it could take its 4 million or so to the Autumn that would be useful for ITV. Big if though. It would unclog the first few months of the year a bit though and free up those lead-ins from The Masked Singer and Saturday Night Takeaway to go to new shows, those could be useful slots for trying new formats.
I know there’s then a clash with I’m A Celeb, but I think Saturday Night Takeaway would work well in the X Factor slot against Strictly. Always thought it feels like a run-up-to-Christmas type of show.
