The switch from pre-recorded to live was pretty seamless. Not sure if it was before or after the West End performance.

I think it was after but I’m not 100% sure, which says it all about how well done it was.

I think given the circumstances they put on a great show last night. Too many magicians but that was down to the public vote, and they clearly all cancelled each other out last night.

I think all things considered they’ve done very well with these ‘live’ shows. The 3 month break clearly cost the show some momentum but that was out of their hands and I think the production has been really good. I notice they’re shooting the Christmas special on Tuesday whilst the set is still up.

Then onto next year, and what the auditions might look like if they do film them in Jan/Feb, with theatres still unlikely to be open and quite possibly no Simon.

I'd much rather they kept Ashley over Simon. The show needs someone who is a bit more critical and doesn't just put dancing dinosaurs through.

Not that they’d have 3 men, but I’d quite happily have Ashley replace either Amanda or Alesha and have him alongside David and Simon. Ashley has been great but I do think they miss Simon as well.

Plus longer term you’d want someone for David to bounce off.

I guess the tricky thing with keeping Ashley is the auditions are filmed at the same time as Dancing on Ice, but DOI is only one day a week so I’m sure they could work around it.

Ashley is ok if a little dull. I agree he’d be a good full time replacement for Simon though and I think David has been better for Simon not being there.

I agree regarding David being better without Simon but to be honest I am a bit tired of his act now - but I do think a comedian in the mix is needed.

The consistency of the panel has generally been beneficial since 2012 but probably is due a change now.

I still think David is great for the show. His act with Simon can be a bit tiresome but he’s been good on these shows without him and plays well off Ant and Dec, them going back a long way before the show no doubt helps.

Agree the panel is probably due a change, although I expect it might be 2022 when we get one. I can’t imagine them changing anything between now and January and it’d be nice to let this panel have their 10th series together.

But David and Simon are the two I’d keep. Alesha and Amanda are less essential to the show.

AIUI the switch from pre-recorded to live was during a commercial break (so they went into a break at the end of the final pre-recorded part, and when they came back from that break they were live). I may be wrong.

Agreed David has been better without Simon, but I still find him creepy and annoying so would like to see the back of him. Could quite happily get rid of Amanda and Alesha too. If another comedian was brought into the mix, I'd quite like to see Dawn French, as I think she was good when she was on the Superstar judging panel a few years ago.

The only thing that threw me was the announcement of the government adding £1m to the appeal before the West End performance, though of course that was probably known on Friday.

They have had three men on the panel before - albeit with a line-up that didn't last very long (Cowell, Holden, McIntyre, Hasselhoff) in 2011.

I would find it doubtful that they'd get rid of 'Head Judge' Amanda but I can see Simon, Amanda, Ashley, and David being a great all-round panel. I am sure David would have a field day with the 'trading Simon in for a younger model' type jokes (though quite how Ashley would feel about that is quite another matter...)

I think it’s even more unlikely they’d get rid of the only black woman on the panel, than any of the others being removed.

I think if they want Ashley on the panel in the future they’d most likely just have five judges or Simon might take a back seat again.

Alesha has probably been their best judge in recent years. Amanda gets treated quite harshly too but has generally fitted in well and is far better than Heidi Klum in the US, but probably would be the easiest to replace.

Simon of course may be forced to take a year out, or at least be wise to take it easier. I also suspect the show next year may slip to air later in the year again and hold out until they can do auditions with an audience. I think unlike the singing shows audience feedback is more critical here to the audition process.
