The Brit Awards 2006

Some changes to be made me thinks! (February 2005)

OK I've just watched the Brit Awards, and although they are brilliant again this year I felt the show was lacking something, and I'm not quite sure what.

It just didn't seem to have the same 'oomph' as previous years.

So for the 2006 Brits i'd like to see a few changes made:

- Show the damn thing LIVE - truely live and not edited highlights on the same night or the next night. There is no reason why it couldn't be shown live from 9 - 12 midnight on ITV1 with an edited version on ITV2 (or ITV4) the next night. This would bring back the element of surprise instead of reading or hearing about the winners the morning the show is being aired. It completely ruins it.

In fact, why have they never been shown live?? Surely it's only a matter of time now as they can't play the 'celebs getting drunk and saying rude things might offend people' card every time.

- Get a few more categories in there - or ones with some variation instead of 'best male, best female, best international male etc...'

- Allow a bigger public audience into Earl's Court - I always feel quite sorry for the public when they're shown all crammed into the tiny space in front of the stage. Another way to make money as well.

I'm sure there are more as well I just can't get my brain in gear. Any more suggestions - does anyone feel the same as me?

I agree about the live element.
I've never understood it either.
I suppose for ITV it was to fit the news in. Though if the ceremony was taking place 9-12 they should have a break half way through, which would be perfect for everyone if ITV could convince them.

I do however like the way that the ITV2 coverage is filmed as live and just played out the next day, it works so well like that.

The only other thing I'd suggest is to free up the script, and don't over reherse it, more adlibbing wouldn't go a miss.

It should be noted that this year's show was actually longer than last year. It was shown 8pm-10pm last year, so its already longer.

Indeed, the reason I said 9-12 was as it would be live there would be more being shown and it would also be after the water-shed.

As for the news thing - surely they could do mini-updates once or twice during the ad breaks?

An idea ive had for years is the age of digital TV why not the things like the Brits (that I really enjoyed by the way)

Why not just show it LIVE as its happening on ITV2??? and a legal disclamer could pop up saying ''What you atemping to access is live and could contain bad lanague voilence etc by pressing 'select' you have argeed to these terms and that you were warned"

Why not??
