It's the in-thing to take a well-loved kids TV series and say "Ha! Look at all the smutty innuendos! And look, they're all on drugs!" etc.

Rarely do people actually look at the shows fondly.

Like that 'innuendo-laden' episode of Rainbow that was emailed around a couple of years ago? Any still got the link to it ?

Well, yeah, but that 'episode' was intentionally made to amuse staffers for an ITV Christmas tape. Never actually shown on TV at the time.

It's stuff like the 'all the characters on "The Magic Roundabout" represented a different kind of drug' rumour that's silly.

Nick, talk us through your childhood!

Monday was Picture Book.
Tuesday was Andy Pandy.
Wednesday was The Flowerpot Men.
Thursday was Rag, Tag and Bobtail.
Friday was The Woodentops.

I remember Andy Pandy, but by then it was in colour. I have a vague memory of Bill and Ben but they must have been repeats.

Anyone remember Pipkin and Finger bobs. I understand the puppet master hated every minute of doing that kiddies show. Another child hood illusion shattered. I think he created them too, but feel free to correct me.

"The Herbs", on the other hand...

Yes, another Smallfilms production, and probably their last black and white work. Presumably that's why it wasn't repeated past the early 70s while The Clangers, Bagpuss and the colour re-make of Ivor the Engine had a longer life.

My cousin once had a tortoise called 'Tog' !

Anyone remember a radio prog from the late 70's/early 80's that you used to do PE in school to?

ISTR Radio 4 with something about 'Movement ' in the title.

"Music and Movement" started in the "For Schools" strand on the Home Service in the early fifties and lasted into the seventies (not sure about the eighties, but quite possible) on Radio Four.

In the early years, I'm sure I remember them teaching the "moves" to "I'm a little teapot, short and stout, tip me up and pour me out".

Which probably brings us full circle, and back to things which are totally rude and ought to be banned from the radio or television nowadays.

How about Mary, Mungo & Midge! Narrated by Richard Baker! A young girl living with a mouse and dog. Did they not have social services in those days? Laughing

And then there was the god awful Barnaby The Bear !

And to think we were still using the very same programmes back when I was at school in 1996/97! Shocked
