If present standards of ITV are to go by. Then it's really pathetic.

Bringing back the IBA to regulate ITV would be a start. I heard a rumour that Thames TV could be making a comeback. Then why don't the IBA if back in existense replace the present London weekday Carlton franchise with Thames. The mirror image and jingle is really world famous.

Central or even the popular ATV with the ident and jingle in the midlands should also return in place of Carlton.

And Southern Television should also make a dream return in place of the abysmal Meridian.

Out go the shocking ITV1 idents from all the ITV regions to be replaed by the idents and jingles we all knew and remembered so fondly just as the programme started. See http://www.tv50.co.uk to remember the old days that we would all love to see come back.

Continuity announcers should also replace the few extra unnecessary adverts.

And the ITV News should be rebranded by IBA as the ITN News, and returning to their old time slots and durations. ITN News at Ten should only be a half hour bulletin. The ITN News At 545 just before the regional news magazines at 6.00pm, and ITN News at One could make a famous comeback.

And there should be a remit enforced by IBA for the old Schools and Colleges to be broadcast during term time.

And World Of Sport including Rallying, wrestling, yachting etc and the famed Results Service should also be forced to return to ITV on Saturday afternoons by the IBA.

The good old days of ITV would soon be on the way back if IBA returned as the regulators.

I don't think they would be THAT Generous! That's like saying 'Get rid of this C4 and C5 rubbish, make TV licenses £1 again, make everything Black and white, bring back The Black And White Minsrtel show, bring back ATV and ABC and stuff, and ah,the good old days of televsion!'

It's really difficult to comprehend ITV ever got rid of World Of Sport in 1986, because minority sport was only aired on that programme with such in-depth coverage in those days. Big Daddy v Giant Haystacks was top drawer viewing.

You would never have seen canoeing or yachting if it was not for World Of Sport on Saturday afternoons.

Greg Dyke was the man who started changing the map of ITV for the worst, like pulling the plug on the programme, and getting rid of wrestling, darts etc, just to chase ratings with the BBC.

And although snooker remained on ITV for a while, even that was wiped out after a while, and although there was the Charity challenge for a spell , and now the Champions Cup and Nations cup, it's nothing compared to when you had 3 counting tournament's for rankings. I can't remember the last time a ranking event was on ITV, and that's a disgrace.

It's ironic now that Dyke is controller of BBC with less in the way of major sport, that there is far more minority sport now on the Beeb than it ever has before.

ITV is a shambles. One step closer and ITV1 will be like BBC1with national continuity and local continuity only heard before the news.

If this really happened would it not be the ITC's responsibility to

a) step in (well, they did it with News At Ten)
b) create a new national network of regional stations

This would not be impossible with digital TV allowing people to pick their region, there'd be no need for taking up analogue space.

Is the local Oxford TV station terrestrial or cable?

Terrestrial - but not available in Digital as far as I know. I think it mainly shows ITN News channel anyway.
There are several of these local stations.

one of the biggest is TV12 on the South Coast/Isle of Wight http://www.tv12.co.uk

To refer to the title of this topic, there is going to be a slight return for the IBA - it was split into the ITC and the RA and these are two of the five organisations (along with the BSC, the other RA and Oftel) that will make up Ofcom.
