I used to enjoy Eldorado, it was a much more involving and dareing show than the bland, grey, tragically-English stuff like Emmerdale, Corrie or EE.
Also, people forget that not only did I enjoy Eldorado, but so did 14 million other people towards the end, more than watch Brookside. The show was not an immediate hit, but then soaps aren't, by their nature they need time to become established and for the characters to develop.

It upsets me how so many people Hate Itv Digital on this board, I mean I know it doesn't have that many channels but I got it in June and it has really brightened up my dull life because where I live in a valley we can't get sky because the signal can't get through and its impossible for our house to get Cable because of the way its set out:(
I don't hate ITV Digital. I was one of the first to get it, and I have two subscriptions. But the company is losing money hand over fist, and that is crippling Granada and Carlton causing them to rip ITV apart even quicker than they would have done otherwise.
Therefore I just wish they'd just fold the company now and implement the system they were talking about a couple of months back and make the basic channels FTA, with the premium stuff being available and managed by NTL or BSkyB. That would suit everybody.

I think that will happen.
BSkyB were confirmed to want to Sky One FTA on Multipelex A alongside Sky News, Telewest are trying to FORCE E4 to go Free, the BBC wants UKTV channels to be available free, and if the other parent company, Telewest succeeds in getting the competition made free I can't see that not happening.
Let's see what happens, but i can see a Free DTT system looking something like this
BBC 1,2,CBBC/3,CBeeBies/4, News24, Parliament
ITV1, 2
Channel 4, E4
Channel 5, Sky News, Sky One, Shop!
UK Gold, UK Style, UK Horizons, PlayUK
Which leaves just a few channels not involved as free channels. MTV, Discovery, Paramount/Nick, Cartoon Network, and the ITVDigital-owned ones.
Cartoon Net and MTV are free in many european terrirories so I don't see the problem for them here, and the rest would be more-or-less forced to follow.
We'd be left with a much more sensible system of mainly FTA and maybe one Mux reserved for pay-TV like the films and sports.
It will take a risk at the begining but I can certainly see it working.

All of those books are very good indeed and well worth reading. On the subject of books - totally off topic but I couldn't really care less - does anyone have any suggestions? I've just finished The Edge of Reason and well, that was very good, but I need some ideas. I've got one I'm in the middle of at the moment and another two crime books that've just come out but I'll finish them in about a week... any ideas?
Anyway, BSB. Didn't work really. Trouble was that none of the execs had any business sense, whereas - and I know how much everyone in here hates Murdoch - Murdoch had a business mind and an increadible talent for making things 'work'. Perhaps not ASkyB, though...
BSkyB and BSB merge was for the best. Think about it, Sky News would be half the operation it is today if the two hadn't merged, well perhaps about 3/4.
I've never fully understood the concept of getting Sky for entertainment. The only things Sky have brought us in the way of self-produced TV is 24 hour news and sport and some excellent little movies. One day we'll all get sick of watching repeats and cancel our Sky subscriptions to the likes of UK Gold et al.
You know Cat, I couldn't agree more with that. And yes, ASkyB was a flawed concept before it even got off the ground
You know, you're the first person to ever agree with me about, well, anything not to put too fine a point on it.
Very good indeed, keep it up.
Asa do you think there is much of a chance of my old username ever returning, or am I forever to be stuck with a name that most people spell chesheric?
Eric my arse.
BTW, whilst we are talking about Murdoch and his Sky operations - is Sky Global still going ahead despite him losing DirecTV thingy bid?

As for the agreeing, well, I've read the books and I know the story so like I say, in all aspects of that post I agree. With regards to the Sky Global thing, I have no idea. I tried to look round the net for articles about it, but I can only seem to find ones from before he lost the DirecTV bid.
