Well BSB certainly had the higher-quality programming
Er... Heil Honey I'm Home?
I've only seen a clip of that on 100 Greatest TV Programmes from Hell, but it looked fantastic! I'd love to see the proper episodes.

The Children's Channel originally at first shared with Lifestyle in late 1992 I think, then it shared with TCC, the older version of the Children's Channel at that time and something else, possibly JSTV! The Movie Channal was the only BSB channel to continue broadcasting after the merger and remained under that name until 1997 shortly before the digital movie channels arived!
Yes, well it's a foregone conclusion that I couldn't name a similarly cringeworthy programme on Sky, mainly because at that time they didn't make any of their own programmes. Imports, imports imports, all the way.
Nothing much has changed really.
At least BSB made the effort. Sky just liked to jangle all that cash in their pockets they'd saved by buying cheap imports rather than making British programming.

If nothing else it was imaginative! Seemed to be quite funny though, although having the Hitlers with American accent wasn't a good idea IMHO... just had a thought - when will it be brought back on ITV?

Hmmm, not sure if I should post this, but what the hell. A while back 'Heil Honey, I'm Home' was featured on 'The 100 Greatest TV Moments From Hell'. A review of the 100 Greatest Show (which quite rightly IMHO tore it to pieces) had this to say on 'Heil Honey':
'For crying out loud, what the hell is going on? This was quite obviously a parody using a very obvious gag - coupling Adolf Hitler with a cosy sitcom premise. What kind of stupid ****ing jerk arsehole would miss the point of a joke like that? And despite being an obvious send-up, they're still trying to bracket it with a 'racism' tag doled out to Vince Powell's stuff.
Geoff Atkinson is interviewed, talking about the notion of turning Hitler into a domestic fool, something which comedians have been doing since he first strutted his stuff on the newsreels. Dick Fiddy, idiot TV historian, describes the show as 'reprehensible because the next door neighbours were Jewish'(despite that being the whole ****ting point). One of the Corpses is Jewish and he'd absolutely love to see the show (nay, the series) in full. Very interesting that the full title sequence is shown, including Paul Jackson's 'executive producer' credit, especially given the animosity twixt Mr Jackson and certain people at Channel 4 - an allusion to office politics they assume we're too stupid to pick up on. The inclusion of Heil Honey... in this chart isn't just misguided, it's deliberately offensive.'

These two books are worth getting if you have any interest at all in BSB, Sky, or just tv in general.
All the talk about 'history' got me to dig out my copy of 'Satellite Wars' - a three-part series which was on Channel 4 in 1995(ish).
One forum said it was recently on Al-Jazeera TV (dubbed) - and recently on an English service as well.
I don't think it will be on C4/E4 as it is now very dated - but still very interesting.
All of those books are very good indeed and well worth reading. On the subject of books - totally off topic but I couldn't really care less - does anyone have any suggestions? I've just finished The Edge of Reason and well, that was very good, but I need some ideas. I've got one I'm in the middle of at the moment and another two crime books that've just come out but I'll finish them in about a week... any ideas?
Anyway, BSB. Didn't work really. Trouble was that none of the execs had any business sense, whereas - and I know how much everyone in here hates Murdoch - Murdoch had a business mind and an increadible talent for making things 'work'. Perhaps not ASkyB, though...
BSkyB and BSB merge was for the best. Think about it, Sky News would be half the operation it is today if the two hadn't merged, well perhaps about 3/4.
I've never fully understood the concept of getting Sky for entertainment. The only things Sky have brought us in the way of self-produced TV is 24 hour news and sport and some excellent little movies. One day we'll all get sick of watching repeats and cancel our Sky subscriptions to the likes of UK Gold et al.
Well UK Gold comes from BBC Worldwide, and why the **** is it called UK Gold, they show far too recent stuff thesedays!

It upsets me how so many people Hate Itv Digital on this board, I mean I know it doesn't have that many channels but I got it in June and it has really brightened up my dull life because where I live in a valley we can't get sky because the signal can't get through and its impossible for our house to get Cable because of the way its set out:(

gold does not just mean old or classic, it could mean quality, or 'the best' which is what i think the channel is all about, (it does not always succeed, i mean it is going to show eldorado next month!)
