Brian is one of this country's great entertainers - But the only time he's in a format that shows him to his true greatness is when he appears on the Royal Variety Performance.
The funniest moment was when he was compering the show about 6 years ago...
Announcement: "Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome your host, Brian Conley"... To which he promptly waks on the stage - and falls straight off the front, in an unflinching fall that Delboy would have been proud of.
In a not unrelated point - Highest rating non-terrestrial show on Thursday nights the last few weeks - "The Best of the Royal Variety Performance".
The
actual
show itself, every year, pulls in 10 million viewers.
Yet we're told time after time that people don't want "variety".
As the BBC keeps toying with the idea of bringing the Gen Game back, maybe he's the kind of person that could get away with hosting it.
It makes sense to me. I don't recall any problems he had when he presented the Lottery show "Got Your Number" or something like that, and he did fairly well with Let Me Entertain You.
Then again, in my eyes, Conley was always an ITV person.
I reckon Brian could help bring back variety to ITV but they won't have it.
I totally agree. I would have said that they were going the right way with Paul O'Grady, but now that he's gone to Channel 4, they need someone.
And yes Judgement Day. The idea of the programme seemed ok, but the game seemed stretched over an hour in opinion.
I would love to see ITV take back Conley, maybe even give a repeat airing of his last Christmas Show must have been 97/98, but on a day like Christmas Eve when advertisers aren't around, it would be nice to see them showing something festive.
