I recall Brexit was initially a tabloid term, a snappy sort of thing you’d expect to see on the front of The Sun, and the BBC News wouldnt use it in its graphics. Eventually they realised it had gone mainstream so started doing so.

The only person I heard regularly referring to it as Brexit before the referendum was an Irish colleague - perhaps it was being used more in foreign media?

I walked past one of these posters on the way to work a few weeks ago, and wondered at the time what would happen if and when Brexit was delayed. I *think* though the version I saw was on one of those digital bus stop ad screens so they'll have been able to skirt around the issue, but can imagine there were plenty of physical posters put up too that were either hastily replaced, or more likely just left in situ until the next time they were due to be updated.

You might have seen an upsurge in public health (are you getting your 5-a-day?) and army recruitment poster ads at the beginning of the year - these were booked by the government for EU exit ads, but because nothing was agreed, the govt still had to use the poster sites. So where EU exit ads have been removed, it's worth seeing what replaced them...

The TV commercials are still going out at the moment, without mention of a date. As mentioned earlier, they refer to "EU Exit", but - not very fun fact - the material ID number for the commercial includes the code "BREX".

Get Ready for Brexit adverts. Two versions one with a male VO for business, while there is a woman VO for personnel.

Will the Government are going to keep these going if the deadline isn't meet?

For clarity, the whole “matter” was always originally labeled as EU Exit.

Then, Greece* had some major political and financial issues and the Greek departure from the EU - and potential reversal to Drachma from Euro - was labeled by the press as “Grexit”. (Greek Exit).

Thereafter, the UK’s “EU Exit” became “Brexit” in the tabloids. The term eventually being taken onboard by everyone, including Government.

*Yes, it has been THAT long.......

They'll presumably do what they did back in March and reuse the slots for other ads. Though this time round they've had a lot more ads and messages than the last two dates so lot of filling

Seems we won't know until the 19th

There seem to be three possible outcomes:

1) A deal, which would include a transition period
2) Lack of a deal, requiring the PM to request an extension under the Benn Act
3) PM requests extension, EU rejects it

So it's only in case 3 that these adverts are valid, and the likelihood of that happenning seems slim, particularly as there would be time for Parliment to pass a further Act withdrawing Article 50 if required to prevent No Deal.

I wonder what OFCOM's view of these adverts would be.
