Just saw a piece this morning about BBC News helping CIN by having an auction of BBC News related stuff.
The current bid for a day in the Breakfast gallery is £300 and its only been on there a few hours. As well as in the "business" studio, not sure where it really is but you can go there and watch Declan Curry doing the business news.
All looks quite good, but I'm poor so ain't bidding. Any rich folk out there?
Blimey, someone's bid £1000 to go and see an edition of Breakfast from the gallery!
Fancy paying again for something that you have already paid for to be available via a licence fee.
I think you're missing the point - people are paying this for charity, not to the BBC.
The online auction has gone absolutely mad! Sophie Raworth's dress is now up to £650, Breakfast with Dermot and Natasha is at £4000, as is Frost's sofa and armchair, while Dermot Murnaghan's tie has now reached the heady heights of £210.
All of those seem pretty expensive, but they pale into insignificance when you look at two of the other lots:
Natasha Kaplinsky's alarm clock: £2260
and...
GEORGE ALAGIAH'S PEN: £10,000!!!!
This is absolute madness! There must be some huge Natasha and George fans out there! Surely these people aren't actually going to pay up. I'm surprised Sophie's dress hasn't got more on it.
Some of the "duff" lots seem to include Anna Ford's jacket which has reached just £150 so far (a bargain if you ask me - even Sian Williams' Christmas top is more than double that at £310), while Poor Huw Edwards' opera CD currently stands at a measly £60.
EDIT - there's been a flurry of overnight activity on Huw's CD, it's now up to an enormous £9000. (Does anyone else reckon that there's some drunken late night bidding going on here?)

Lol, if they were drunk, then they'll regret it, as they've now added that the bids are legally binding! They've only added that since the bids have rocketed!

This is absolute madness! Do these people not realise that they HAVE to pay up?! The celebrity autograph book is at £9999 - all these nines just smack of drunken mistake! As lovely as I'm sure Sian's top is, £19,995 seems just a little steep, while Huw's favourite opera had better be a good one at £20,000!
Best value to my mind is still Anna Ford's jacket, an absolute steal at just £250.

I would hate to be the news presenters. Imagine what you would feel like if someone only bid £220 for your tie but your colleague had his favourite opera cd bidding at £20,000.
It's like a popularity contest
