They used a breaking news aston on Breakfast this morning that was similar to the News 24 one.

Had the red bar across the top with BREAKING NEWS/SUBJECT OF NEWS and the horrible white/orange blocks underneath. The way the breaking news bit typed was different. It typed BREAKING NEWS from left to right and then it wiped back right to left and then the subject of news aston typed across and wiped back. The interval at which it changed from breaking news/subject of news varied quite a bit as if it was being done manually?

They even had an animating phone symbol, but this was on the right opposite the clock and different to the N24 one.

Seemed to be the same computer doing it to the flashy N24 one (as opposed to the bog-standard N24 one).

Yes, I've noticed the two different Aston engines in use on N24 - the "typie" one and the "wipey" one; the latter using a more rounded and tightly-kerned version of Gill Sans than the former.

I must say I prefer the latter for some reason.

Don't mean to drag all this up again but if on the story about the 14yr-old girl and the 46yr-old man now found in Scotland then the Beeb did well this morning as when that story broke at about 7:10 this morning Sky News got their aston up first (as usual), then it came up on Breakfast about five minutes later. ITV News were probably caught off guard and were a full 10mins behind Sky in breaking the news.

That is all.

The BBC also carried an interview with a member of the public who assisted the police in boxing in the car. I assume that he (Mr Falconer) chose to call into the Beeb of his own volition. Good for him.
