Also it would be nice to hear some announcers giving the regions a bit more 'regionality' when doing the regional intro's.
A few announcers DO come to mind, see if you can name them!

Well, I think the regions are in the hands of Mr Thompsett on Sunday 14th, so lets see if he gives them the "treatment".

It was really good to hear Mr T on both Friday and Saturday nights this weekend. Was it the LNN Christmas bash or something?

Not to my knowledge, Steve. Well, if it was, they forgot to invite ME!

I'd put half-a-crown on Glen being back on lates Tuesday and Friday this week.

His regional recordings for today got somewhat overtaken by that nice Mr Hussein chap, so some regions got lots and lots of silence at times, rather than the dulcet tones of Mr T!

Well he did well in my region. Before Soccer Sunday he did all the 'this is Yorkshire on ITV1' stuff and actually mentioned what teams were playing in today's main match. Then before Christmas Zoo Vet he talked about the show as if he knew all about it and actually mentioned what animals were going to be featuring. If announcers were paid performance related pay he'd be on a bonus tonight in my opinion

Yes, Glenn sets the standard every time. I hope he's doing Christmas Day, although he probably hopes he isn't.

He's one of the "old school", Andrew and will always ask to have the first few minutes of the programme played to him on preview BEFORE he writes his script about it.

That's always been possible on recorded network programmes, but with regional playout from LNN as well, it's now possible for the local programmes as well, time permitting.

Time is the main downside nowadays, though, as the evening network announcer is now the recorded regional announcer for the following day. That makes Saturday evening a bit of a "pig" of a shift, with all the regional stuff that goes out on Sundays.

So Glen doesn't get to sit back and watch Pop Idol then!, well you learn something new everyday.

If the regional announcements are done the previous night, where do the recorded overnight announcements come into this? when are they recorded?

The overnight announcements are done by the person who records ITV2 in the ITV2 V/O booth.
So whoever you hear on ITV2 from say 6pm until 6pm the following day, that same person will be on ITV1 overnight.
As for Glen.....well he gave Richard Wyatt a really good plug on HTV West on Sunday. He really does his homework on those regional links doesn't he!! He even mentioned "HTV West News"...not many people admit to that!!

No, I'll bet he'll be at home with the family. After all, he and Trish have done there fair share of Christmas work when LWT was 'on-the-air'....if only it still was!!!

Have to agree, Glen is just what's right about continuity announcing. He really is a cut above the rest. The others just don't compare.

And it's weird having the usual ITV2 guy on overnights for ITV1 - I don't know...it just doesn't sound right. Whereas ITV2 has greatly benefitted from the addition of the ITV1 announcers to their team.

Ah Nick, one of the 'old school' but sounding spot on, along with Trish and Mr Bannerman.
