just seen an article on Teletext - It says that South Bank's Melvin Bragg is make a four part series of "The History of ITV" to be broadcast next year ahead of the networks 50th birthday.

Should be interesting.

Not like ITV to be nostaligic!

I'll be watching too, unless they got he way of so many others and make it a 16:9 cropporama of 4:3 footage. Though recently, This Morning (of all shows) have been leading the way in how to show 4:3 footage- hopefully the producers of this show will take note.

If Melvyn's doing the programme, odds on it'll be produced by the LWT team.

Given the sympathetic way the last day idents were produced for 16:9 last October, I shouln't think we have anything to worry about in the cropping department.

I wonder if Glorfi's got any views on this subject?

It's a good job we found out about it a few weeks ago Smile

I do have my doubts about the programme though. The strengths of ITV have somewhat vanished in recent years. It would also question what ITV is really about. Maybe they will look at 50 years of programming rather than ITV being a regional service.

In Broadcast it said it would be looking at the regional franchises, especially the stations that rocked the boat (like TWW, Westward etc etc).

So idents will have to be a must surely! I too was shock that ITV was producing a programme like this.

It's not going to be show until 2004/2005 anyway, so don't set your videos just yet!

Would the term "Swansong" be truly applicable in this case?

If it'll be 2005ish, then it'll probably be connected to the 50th anniversary celebrations.

Wonder what else ITV will be arranging for that? If they're still around?

Yes, considering that it's LWT (well, Granada, but they own LWT, and use thier studios) who make this morning as well.

It said on teletext they will be looking at the behind the scenes politics and stuff like that, so no doubt issues like companies loosing their franchise and stuff like that. Except it to be as highbrow as The South Bank Show and no doubt shown in a similar slot.
