I used to like the Northern Spirit (previously Regional Railways, now Arriva Trains) sponsorship stings on YTV weather. "Linking YOU to the community".

I remeber Carlton had AMARADA whoever they are. LWT twice had no sponsor which had LWT weather in one corner, a barometer that would spin through the seasons which would have St Pauls & surrounding skyline in the background chnaging seasons with the baromter. Interestingly Winter was a thunderstorm at Night..

I think Amarada was an insurance company of some sorts.

Wasn't it Amarada Hess Gass?

Stena Line Ferries used to sponser Meridian in the early days / 1994, then it switched to Sunlife..... 'helping you plan for tomorrow' the voiceover read.

Yes, I think I remember. I have a Sunlife sponsorship sequence from some point during the Meridian "orange" era (10/98 - 11/99) on tape. Was Stena Line the original sponsor?

I also seem to remember that P&O took over from Sunlife, and that their sponsorship sequences featured views through a ship-portal type thing. One of the winter variants featured Debbie Thrower throwing (geddit?) snowballs, I believe.

Do you recall the wonderful generic Meridian Weather sting that used to be used during periods when there was no sponsor? There are stills at the bottom of this page, but sadly no video.

That was actually for Community Link. The only time Community Link was ever sponsored on YTV.

Amarada.co.uk had quite funky music as I remember

It was actually Amerada, and they were a gas and electricity supplier.

Legal and General as with many ITV regions at the end of the 80s, including TVS. Used a different theme tune to the TVS stings though, but the same basic animations. I've got a bit on tape I will see if I can dig it out later.

As mentioned Stenaline sometime around 1995 (then later P&O Stenaline sponsored Airwatch c.1999).
