Most of the Border region isn't served by United Utilities either..... but we still got the sponsorship!

But just like every energy company can't anyone in the country buy their electricity from them?

Possibly as far as electricity is concerned - not so for water as the water in Scotland isn't privatised.

To answer Andrew's question, Granada have sold airtime and adverts for Border since the early nineties, so this could also have explained the United Utilities sponsorship.

So how long has BMI been with Granada? as i only saw it the other week with just the Granada Weather sting.

Since the first Granada/Border Weather of 2005, which I believe was yesterday, I know they started using the Granada Weather sting in mid October, whilst a new sponsor could be found.

Just out of interest who does the voice-over on the Granada version?

BMI Baby are the sponsers of STV and Grampian weather too

Lewis, i am sure that rival airline flybe will be miffed that their very expensive sponsorship of Grampian and Scottish weather forecasts, has made no impact on you. Laughing

Stena Line Ferries used to sponser Meridian in the early days / 1994, then it switched to Sunlife..... 'helping you plan for tomorrow' the voiceover read.

HTV Wales Weather was also sponsored by Sunlife at one point, as well as Legal and General, Staybright Windows, Oakwood and now BMI Baby.

Random Fact #5362 The first sponsored "programme" was the ITV National Weather in 1989 when and still is sponsored by Powergen.

Has it always been Powergen?

I think it has. It may have been under a different name right at the very start but I think the company rebranded. I'll check when I'm on lunch in a bit (working lates on a bank holiday!)

Yes that's what I was a bit concerned about. Im sure there was some double-barrelled company name earlier on.

Well, I just had a look through the Independent Television in Britain vol 5, which confirmed that it is Powergen.

LWT used to have Lega & Genral as I remember the tune for it. Thames had somebody else but they were only placed on the last screen.

I remeber Carlton had AMARADA whoever they are. LWT twice had no sponsor which had LWT weather in one corner, a barometer that would spin through the seasons which would have St Pauls & surrounding skyline in the background chnaging seasons with the baromter. Interestingly Winter was a thunderstorm at Night.

The BMI sponsor now says "BMI sponsors of LWT weather"

I'm sure they also shared a sponsor in the 90's as well but can't rememember which one it was. I also think alhtouhg not to sure that Carlton had the same no sponsored animation.
