Wow - they've updated that quickly - it had cream stripes at 8.05am - I must have been wrong about that studio being CSO too as there seems to too textured to be CSO now.
Yes it was a brand new set, with a HUGE desk that took up half the studio. There is a high shot from behind the cameras, showing the cameras at the start/finish of the programme, there are also dimmed lights at the start/end. The backdrop is the ITV blue colour with the ITV boxes lined along the wall, with lights behind them. There are two plasma screens, it's hard to explain, can anyone upload any images of the set, it would be easier to describe then. The studio is quite dark whilst presenting, and at the start of the first programme the presenter had started talking before the lights were fully turned on!!! It is a vast improvement on its predecessor, and the best Border has ever had.
Unbelievable Lookaround actually did a live report tonight, they haven't done one since June/May last year! It was Tim Backshall live at a river that had burst it's banks. It is really time Border used live reports, it's about the only region that doesn't on a regular basis.
Lookaround is definately alot more watchable, I will watch it every day now. I used to watch the Six O'Clock News, then the Evening News, but I feel that BBC News is too dated already. It's quite sly how the national news starts straight after the regional news, I suppose they do this to get more viewers.
Images and video of the new look now available at TVark.org.uk
Indeed, I like the way how they stress that ITV PLC covers England, Wales and
Southern Scotland
!.
Border getting a brand new set must be a bit of a shocker, bearing in mind the last look of Lookaround lasted about 8 years!.
I see Border News use the full opening titles on the short bulletins, the full opening titles actually being shorter than the short Border News titles from the previous look, and being 3 times shorter than the former Lookaround titles. Lookaround will no longer have a 30 seconds marathon of a title sequence!.
Full opening titles? Don't all the regions do this for all bulletins now, ie zoom in on uk, boxes coming from right, name appears?
Tyne Tees do the first part of the titles (Before the map and coloured boxes appear) which merge into the headlines. That's followed by the end of the titles. (3pm bulletin)
A few complaints about the new set. They seem to have stopped using the high shots of the studio at the start/end of the programme, after the titles it goes into a shot of the two presenters, a shot which annoys me because it is not equal on both sides.
Are Lookaround the only region to do a signed recap of the headlines at the end of the friday programme. They seem to have a big screen to stand next to now whilst signing, alot bigger than the plasma's, although I think it is CSO.

I think Wales do a signed headlines thing aswell dont they??? (Or are you talking about a review of the weeks news, i think i remember seeing something like that when i watched border before)
Are there variations of border news? only itv.com/regional news offers both a 'main' and 'scotland' version of the videos

Since the Scottish Parliament was created, a separate Looakround was created, although it's not a totally different programme. The main edition is live, and there are slots within this when pre-recorded news stories on south scotland are inserted.
