Incidentally, since the Isle of Mann, and the Channel Island states (which are closer to France than to England) are not part of the United Kingdom of GB&NI, do the respective government's of these Crown Dependencies require their citizens to purchase a license to operate a tv receiver for the purpose of receiving broadcast signals?
The TV license is a sore point over here. We have to buy a license in theory, but when detector van came over, they rolled off the ferry, greeted by the DHA, asked for their work permits, which they didn't have, and thrown off the island. Border managed to work around this by hiring a Manx National, hence no work permit visa needed.
The home affairs minister here on the IOM have been thinking about reducing the amount we pay if we don't get a better service, but in all honesty, Tynwald is just and overpaid talking shop.
I have to say, I agree with the point relating to BBC South West and the Channel Islands, what's happening in the UK can be irrelevant, like charity events, local things etc. Here, most people want is the football news from NWT, most people don't care about whats going on in Manchester, Kendal, Chester etc., I dont care what happens in Ramsey!
The weather coverage for the Border region leaves a lot to be desired too; have a look at their weather map and you'll see what I mean.... the entire eastern Borders north of Hawick is obliterated by the Today/Tonight/Tomorrow captions!
That is because that area is mostly covered by Scottish TV, Border never feature stories from the north of the Scottish Borders region.

Wrong - Border covers the area north of Hawick as well - Scottish TV doesn't kick in until south of Dunbar. The obliteration of the area beyond Hawick on the weather maps is just down to lazy so-and-sos in the Granada Leeds graphics department who can't be arsed to do research....

Especially as some of the Border regions Scottish towns are on the Tyne Tees map!!
