The new look was announced back in October of last year, but it was only introduced to the UK channel on 16th February.
Interestingly, it replaced the previous logo that had been used in the UK and internationally for 10 years, as well as in the US who were still using the original logo from 2000! According to the Wikipedia page the new logo was introduced in the US on 18th February, meaning the old logo was used over there for just under 15 years.
This video has a good montage of the new pres. elements.
I wasn't so keen on this new logo at first because the previous fitted in with the idea of the scribbles and lines to draw a cartoon, however it is the fun, well animated, colourful and simple pres. design which has changed my mind.
Warning: The tune will be circulating your mind after this 2 minute video.

Not bad, certainly given the channel a fresh feel.
As much as i like this rebrand, BM UK (short for Boomerang) is still not fully widescreen on some programmes. Is it because making a channel fully widescreen expensive?
I've noticed a few videos where people have slated this look but more so the line up as it's become an additional cartoon network channel rather than showing so many of the classic Hanna Barbara & Looney Tunes cartoons that was the original idea.

The channel has not been a classic cartoon channel in years.

Exactly. I'm not sure if things were different in the US or if people are just annoyed by the change in logo and nit picking. Presumably classic cartoons make no money for a business.

It doesn't broadcast in widescreen at all, anything that's 16:9 is shown in 14:9. The kids channels took ages to go widescreen, but nowadays only Boomerang and Nicktoons are left.
Channel flicking tonight, Cartoon Network shows 4:3 material in its original format but they aren't switching correctly so everything (including the DOG) is stretched. Disney Channel correctly shows 4:3 material however.
Nickelodeon (and the other Viacom channels) don't show 4:3 material properly. They crop it to 14:9. Viacom have always done this, and I'm not really sure why.

This may date from the fact Nick's non-HD channel (and it's counterpart, Nick+1) was only ever 4:3 until relatively recently, and this was the case for a long while even after Nick HD launched, which on its own solved the picture problems. In the meantime, Nick+1 was fixed for correct widescreen and not 14:9 long before the main SD channel received the same treatment.
I don't believe a lot of (American) Nick programming was actually widescreen until the back end of the 2000s when Nick HD launched. Even Disney Channel in America didn't go HD until 2009 and was still churning out 4:3 stuff as late as 2008.
It wasn't until last year that the last couple of shows on US network primetime in 4:3 switched to 16:9 (one was Big Brother, can't remember the other). I guess the issue is America never really had 16:9 SD in the way we have - they kind of jumped from 4:3 SD to 16:9 HD.
