Max - Hate to say it mate, but whenever I'm visiting the Midlands, I laugh out loud at the amateur efforts Midlands Today make of their optg-outs.
It's really awful isn't it. I'm surprised that your surprised about the cock-ups!

Why does BBC1 in England have those awful clock opt-outs. Why cant the main announcer at TVC speak live saying something like:
'Good Evening this is BBC ONE. Now the news with Huw Edwards'
Don't mention the regional presenter, as they don't appear for another 30 mins, and even then its a completly seperate programme from the six o clock news.
BBC ONE Wales have the best continuity, and show the English regions up terribly!
Well technically they do but only on the digital platform where they say This is BBC1. Cor , thats so 80's. I remember when Neighbours finished, they did a trailer, did the local news trailer and then at four seconds to 6pm, the announcer with a big booming voice said 'This is BBC1'
Happy days.

aye - its a pity BBC Wales don't have announcers with big booming voices. these days they're all so camp. i.e:
'This is BBC ONEWALES
(the One Wales bit is said as one word which gets on my nerves)
. Time now for the news with Huw Edwards and Jamie Owen - its Six O Clock...'
[BOOM BOOM]
Actually I think that was one of the great things about TV in the past; the authoritative way they gave the station name out.
'THIS.... issss ... BBC1'
You were left under no illusion as to what you were watching.
Announcements today are pale by comparison.
The regional ITV stations were the same, they had a series of announcements they'd all say; for example 'Serving the North of England, seven days a week, THIS... isss... Tyne Tees!!'
Said with such pride. Come on announcers, put a but of effort into it for goodness' sake!
(i was watching on dtt) wasnt that bad imo - there was a promo for the news special (new style, with the news 24 music in the background):
http://www.tvhome.f2s.com/upload/bbcnewsspecial-selbypromo1201.jpg then the clock, 'this is bbc one for the midlands, now the news at ten o'clock' and it was stopped there - i presume because they didnt have a recorded version for george allagiah and sue beardsmore (neither are regualrs on the late bulletin) - there was a few seconds silence at the end tho
how come the network dont play all of the headline bed, and each region talk on top of it? - it would sound much better imo
Network can't send the clean bed on Network, because they send UK Today on Network as well, in case a region doesn't opt out. The golden rule is that network should always be broadcastable, and just a clean bed on network would break this rule.
BBC London do get a feed of clean bongs from the Nationals sound gallery, as they are much more closely linked to TV Centre technically (and no doubt cos all the bigwigs live in the London area) but even this is not perfect, as BBC LDN have a digital gallery, so there is a slight delay on the sound feed from their gallery to match the delayed vision. Routing the right sound to all the regions would also not be trivial - and lining up with 18 regional galleries not a simple task...

that was a great promo, i liked the way the grapics appeared to be a tunnel, and the music was really dramatic, i thought it was a countdown to the news at 10, that would have been great!

Because the regional/nations presenter appears after the first couple of headlines. Therefore you introduce both presenters. On days when there's not enough time, the network clock DOES go out to all regions but not the nations.

CAMP?? Where on earth did you get that from. THere's only one person who sounds remotely camp on air. No-one else does. You sure you've not updated your subscription to the closet channel The BBC One Wales bit has to be said slightly quick as the timings can be quite tight and it depends where in the country the announcer's from and how they speak.....
