Bob was a great comedian and presenter - shame he's gone.

It only seems like a few days ago that he was presenting Wipeout.

I'm saddened and shocked at the death of Bob Monkhouse, I really hoped he could overcome his illness and make a welcome return to the spotlight in 2004.

It's only been in recent years I've realised what a master of comedy he is, far beyond the gags he cracked as a game host, and how his long standing career outdistanced and outperformed the likes of modern comedians and entertainers.

My thoughts are with his friends and family at this time.

RIP

This is very sad news he was a great presenter and entertainer who made every show his own.
You will be missed Bob. Sad

One of the few people totally at home in the medium , totally relaxed at all times ,whatever the circumstances. A real great - a term all too often misused when ascribed to mediocrities elsewhere. ITN news said he was born in 1928 - is that true ?He certainly didn't look 75 years old !
If you wanted to do a retrospective of his career it would fill hours of transmission time to do him justice. I don't think I've seen a sharper wit anywhere. On a bright note, his legacy is , hopefully , all on tape. He certainly had a vast collection of old silent films himself - one of his real interests.

Don't think this has been mentioned thus far - tonight's edition of Room 101 on BBC Two at 2330 has been changed to the first ever edition, of which Bob was a guest.

The first edition with Paul Merton?
Or the VERY first edition with Nick Hancock?

Well I'm sure the first edition with Paul Merton featured Nick Hancock as the guest.

Very sad news, indeed. As a previous poster said, you would not have thought he was 75 by the way he looked!

Just a quick question, we have been trying to think of the production company which we think Bob owned... but we can't remember what it's called... can anyone help?

It is indeed very sad news to hear the loss of what such a TV legend, we knew he he had suffered cancer but no-one knew that he was close to death as he has been working recently.

But he was very funny when he was on V Graham Norton not too long ago and even when he was on Parkinson, which too wasn't long ago at all.

But we will be greatly missed by the TV Industry, as proved already on the News today by people like Jimmy Tarbuck, Jasper Carrott, Jeremy Beadle and Nicholas Pasons.
