It's fills me with pain to say it, but it has happend; the fantastic Bob Friend, Sky News Reader from 1989 - 2001 has now been removed from the Presenters section on the Sky News Web site. I hope that we will all have fond thoughts of Bob on his day's with Sky News.
The #1 News Presenter in this country, Robert Friend is no more!

And you must have known for a while before posting this, cos yur sig says it all!!!!!!
This has been kept very hush hush. Why? When Bernard Shaw left CNN - I suppose he's their equivalent of Bob Friend - the whole world knew because he annouced it on air. Bob has been recording for a cameo role in 2 films recently, so perhaps that was the last thing he did before retirement. Shame really.
If his full time replacement is Allan King then I'll be quite annoyed. He's a good presenter but him and Anna really don't seem to work with each other that well. Mark Longhurst gets my vote.

They might get a new presenter, mark works well with Lisz (who they should use more of) on the weekend, he's good with Michael Dodd, and Al Scardino the Newspaper Reviewers.

What a shame, I had heard that that Bob was coming back after a long break in which he was able to have the cameo roles in films. But sadly it seems not to be true. Im a bit annaoyed with sky because there was no farewell. Like cat said when bernard shaw left, he announced it live on air, and the cnn newsroom behind him then opened up into appaulse.
I sent an e-mail to Sky News in September asking about Bob and I received the following reply on 22nd;
'Thanks for your email. Bob has taken retirement at the moment due to ill
health but he will be returning to sky part-time when he recovers. I'm not
sure what the problem is but I don't think it's serious.'
That was a month ago so perhaps things have changed in the meantime.
So sorry, I thought that Bob Friend was that Barrymore creation, or is that Bob Martin?

'Bob Friend has been in hospital having heart surgery.
He has had the operation and he is recovering well.
Hopefully he'll be back on screen within a few months.
He is missed by everyone at Sky News and the viewers.'
