It seems a bit odd that one of the parents said on news 24 "all the kids in the studio were very dissapointed" when they realised the compertition was fixed. Yet if they were so dissapointed why has it taken so long for this to come out?

It seems the person who made the decision to 'fake' the result couldnt win either way- they would have been under pressure to fill the alloted space on the running order.

All they had to do is be honest and say there was a technical fault with the lines, but a winner would be picked and revealed on the next show.

Agreed - this would've been the best solution. But someone panicked, perhaps someone inexperienced who didn't think through the potential consequences.

We've all made errors in judgement which (with hindsight) seem rather stupid. At least with the Blue Peter fiasco there was no initial attempt to defraud the viewer, just a desperate and misguided attempt by production staff to do their job.

Great cartoon in The Times today, with the caption:

"This week we're going to make lots of money with just a telephone!" Laughing

Do BBC fans still trust BBC after this . As they say BBC is the most trust broadcaster in world.

Of course I still trust the BBC. I hardly call a 10p phone call a 'premium rate' line. Its Rip off ITV with its 75p per call for ITV play, and £1 per call for the comps on This Morning, X factor etc that’s a bl00dy con.

As for that Biddy Baxter, she should keep her nose out! This is BP in the 21 century! Kids (well most kids) don’t want the rubbish they make with empty plastic bottles and cardboard boxes. They want comps, celebs and that Gethin who keeps taking his kit off! Blue peter has changed since your day Biddy, if they kept it how she wanted it, i.e. stuck in the past, the show would have been dropped years ago!

Thank goodness you are not the Editor of Blue Peter! I agree that 10p premium rate costs are not the same as the other “scandals”. However Biddy Baxter is standing up for the Blue Peter ethos she created and maybe trying to save the editor’s job! Blue Peter would not be the programme it is today, or even exist if it was not Biddy Baxter's philosophy…

in which Richard Marson, present editor of Blue Peter states that: "cool comes from doing what you do best as well as you can - and not from gimmicks and following fashion."

Editor, Richard Marson is also an unofficial historian of Blue Peter having catalogued every edition of the programme. With the possible move to Manchester and Blue Peter's 50th Birthday next year, give him some slack!
