here we go again. Most designs that may of been entered would of required a lot of cameras, special effects and a big studio. With this, they will give some one an envelope and say, make this when you get home and you'll be paid. I didnt see any other designs today, but i say they would of required more work. Like the wrap for Broadcasting House last year, the 13+ winner was a brilliant design, but the overall winner was a bit too "summer TV Forum", when too many kids join the forum, making paint mocks!!!

Also, you can see this ident being created in ADDITION to the existing Christmas idents! With the old kiddies in red suits still being used alongside this one!

So we can probably see a repeat of the previous 2 years Christmas idents along with this one. Laughing

I received a letter from Christine Madden who is head of BBC1 Marketing, and she said that last years Christmas ident would NOT be airing at all this year and they desired to move on from the snowflake concept. Therefore, whatever the winning design is transformed into will be the ONLY ident shown, or if two or three are made they would all revolve around ONE theme. This post is also a first! Someone has revealed information AND the source it came from!!!!

"Her idea was to have a teddy jumping into a pop-up story book and joining the characters to make a Christmas scene."

The 1st Prize winner for the 11-15s... doesn't compare does it? Plus, for those who didn't see the show, it had a story board of how it would animate... This looks so much better than the bouncing pudding... Shocked, even if it doesn't feature dance (well neither does the pudding, unless you count jumping as dancing!! Wink )

Well, the latest BBC One ident features those black dudes jumping up and down in the name of dance and as for the story design idea. I agree it is better in terms of drawing and she took the time to tell the story but I guess if they go for ability to draw, the 11-15 category would always win every time.

Is this Ident going to look anything like BBC America's hippity hop Ident?

Thank heavens for that! A new Christmas ident on one channel at least. Now all we need to do is hope BBC2 have a new ident for 2004.

Sadly I missed BP but I think this could work - Charlotte has only sent in the basic concept, there's lots they could do in terms of sets, action etc. There will probably be variations (ie. for news).

For those who mentioned 1997 it's inevitable ideas for Christmas idents are bound to recur every so often, the trick is keeping ideas up to date and presenting them from a different angle. For example, BBC1's carol singers in 1979 harked back to the 1973 design; BBC2 had a snowflake that year and so did BBC1 three years later. And don't forget BBC1's very different ways of doing snowmen in 1984 and 1994.

If I may suggest one improvement - world-shaped icing on the puddings...
