Sorry that she's going - Barney and her work(ed) well together. She's taking the dog with her. This might signal the end for the pets.

This announcement actually came exactly 2 weeks after the result of Blue Peter: You Decide was announced, with Lindsey Russell as the new presenter.
If Ben or Freddie had won You Decide, things could have been very different. I certainly don't think Radzi Chinyanganya would be joining the show, as I don't think they would have wanted 3 male presenters.

Does seem curious to go through that big search for a new presenter and then immediately throw in another without the same search! Mind you, they did the same thing on CBBC about ten years ago - the presenter who won the vote lasted about a year, the one who arrived shortly after was called Holly Willoughby...
I'm not convinced they actually need 3 presenters anymore though if they're only running once a week, they've managed fine this last 18 months.

Didn't they go down from three presenters to two due to being cut from three episodes a week a two? They certainly don't need three hosts for one episode, could they be going back to at least two a week?

IMO they deserve to go back to two programmes a week, although they missed an opportunity in not doing this once Helen and Barney had become established. They seem to have to rush towards the end. I suppose the advantage of three presenters is that it would be very unlikely, although not impossible, if all three left at once and if two do decide to leave you still have one person continuity wise. I suppose the nearest to this happening was Tina / Chris W leaving round about the same time in the early eighties and Andy being left with a new team in recent history.

They went from three to two when they moved to Salford in September 2011, saying that some reports would come from guest presenters. However at the start of 2012 it went down from two episodes a week to one, so that was clearly just an interim arrangement.
