There has been speculation that Akinwolere will be leaving Blue Peter at some point in 2010 to present the XtraFactor, most likely in June, but this has yet to be confirmed by the BBC.
You'd have thought that if this was the case, he will soon be announcing his exit to the viewers soon!

To present The Xtra Factor?!?! Given all the papers are speculating about Christine Bleakley being poached at huge expense to present that, why on earth would they then choose someone off Blue Peter hardly anyone's heard of? Surely if they were going to choose any Blue Peter it would be Helen, who's been on the news and stuff? Not that they are.
Anyway, I said this before, the only person who's saying Andy is leaving is some overexcited kid on Wikipedia, who's simply guessing, Yes, he's done it for four years which is about as long as most presenters do, but that's not to say that he's going. And the only place you'll see his departure confirmed is on Blue Peter because, sadly, none of the papers care about Blue Peter so won't be reporting any rumours or anything.

Whether Andy is going to present the XTra or not, if he leaves Blue Peter, it would be disappointing. Finally, there is some consistency on the show and the presenting team at the moment is the best modern team since the Konnie, Matt, Simon, Liz era. Although he has been there 4 years, he is only really associated with Helen and Joel. It has taken a long time, but I think I have finally warmed to Andy, who nolonger irritates but looks at ease on Blue Peter.
If anyone is to leave BLue Peter in the near future, my money would be on Joel. Have you seen how bored he looks sometimes? I reckon that Helen wil try (hopefully) to do a Konnie Huq and actually make a go at presenting. Having said that, I get the distinct impression that Andy would like to persue a career in photography or return to his earlier ambition to make documentaries.
Hopefully there wont be any presetner changes until 2012??
This September, it would be nice to see a new set. I doubt Blue Peter will return to its early noughties set set-up but a new one along the same lines of the current I think is needed. Instead of the annual tweaks which now look rather dated and scream Zoe, gethin, Andy era, a full scale studio revamp is in order imo. I think the titles and theme tune should remain in place as these are particularly good imho.
The current presenter line-up is very good I think - it's hugely beneficial for the show to have some consistency in the presenting team. Helen is brilliant, but I also think Joel and Andy work well. Completely agree about the set revamp - it needs refreshing though I think the titles and overall branding is the best Blue Peter have had for years! When does the show move to Salford? I'm wondering whether the next series will be the last in London if they move in September next year? Also Mabel's send-off was very well done - I thought we'd gone back 10 years when Katy Hill was saying goodbye at the end of the show!

Yes, it is a good team at the moment, and they all have their talents - Helen is the sensible one, Joel is the silly one and Andy is the enthusiastic one. I think Helen and Joel's big sister/little brother relationship is particularly endearing. I know Andy isn't very slick but he has other qualities, he certainly gets stuck in to the job and I think he's particularly good working with children.
I notice that the Wikipedia page has been changed again to suggest Andy is now leaving "as they want to remove autocue and Andy cannot work without one". Wikipedia is a load of rubbish.

But Blue Peter no-longer use an autocue anyway. The presenters write a lot of the script themselves and since 2007, i dont think the autocue has been used at all. When Andy joined, autocue was inplace, but now the presenters have to remember most of the script and lets face it, they only present 2-days-a-week so have plenty of time to learn their lines!
Just caught up with last week's editions. I have to say Blue Peter is pretty strong at the moment IMO.
However, surely Helen's comment during the worm-charming segment linking into the next section surely must go down in BP history, the way she mentioned 'twanging, grunting and being vigourous'?
It's the other way around; Andy can't work WITH an autocue, he gets thrown off by it. The wikipedia also inaccurately reports Andy as being homosexual, so I wouldn't take too much information from it as true.
bpmikey; the presenters write little, if any of the script most weeks. You've previously suggested you work for Blue Peter - do you, or not?

I do not wish to speak of my profession on the internet, however, the presenters have rather a lot of influence on the script after it has been written. obviously the presenters don't actually write the script, however during rehearsals, they alter the script in the way that they feel the audience would best respond to.

The thing is, you do "speak of your profession" when you suggest you work at Blue Peter. You now decide not to go into further detail as you clearly don't work there, so stop trying to mislead people.
You quite explicitly stated just a few posts up the page that the presenters "write most of the script themselves" - they don't; nor can you go back and argue that what you actually meant was "they alter the script in the way they feel the audience would best respond to" - they don't. They read what they're told to by the professional scriptwriters who write the script for a child audience to begin with. At most, the presenters change the odd word here or there, with permission from the writing team - it doesn't come at all close to your vague approximation of "the presenters write most of the script themselves".
