So nobody else was excited by the cue card that Helen accidentally held up to the camera for a few seconds yesterday? Of course I paused it. Not very interesting, alas, just "HELEN" and then the list she'd just read out, but I did notice they had to scribble out the original order to match the caption. And at the bottom some illegible scribbles. And that's it.

I saw that too. I don't think it was possible to use an autocue in the Garden so this is probably why the cue card was shown. Anyone would think she was blind, the size of the writing on the card!!! At least Blue Peter's live values still exist

Well done Helen btw!! Did you see her run anyone?? it's been hailed as the greatest ever Blue Peter challenge!! I'd love to do that run.

I watched wednesday's show go out live at TVC in the studio. Studio 3 was used and I have to say the set was quite impressive!!! I spoke to the editior about plans for Sept 2009, can't reveal anything sorry but the current set is staying (fixed set). Only a few minor changes are coming and perhaps some larger scale ones.

I quizzed the editor about his decision to move away from large studios (last used 2007) and his answer wasn't related to budgetry constraints. He said the program had done some research going around schools and the results were that the children thought that the large studios were cold and too spread out and not very homely and that the current set is much more realistic and more friendly. A point that i have to agree with.

I like the current set and it actually looks better in real life, unlike most studios that are extremely dissapointing.

Well that's the main thing. Forget the millions watching at home, for those few that see the set in real life we need it to be as good as possible.

Not surprising really considering they only revamped last year, and as it's highly unlikely any of the presenters will be leaving.

When does this series end - in recent years hasn't it been ending around June?

There's only 4 weeks of filming left. That would take us roughly to the end of June?

All I meant was that it's a shame the set doesn't look as good on TV as it does in real life form as viewers are missing out. I am trying to asy that it's the camera's and angles that are making the set look poor on TV's. And btw, millions of viewers?? only 700,000 a WEEK!

I think last year they finished around Wimbledon time, possibly the final BBC1 shows before CBBC is shunted over to BBC2.

Hmm - the skill in TV set designing is to make it look BETTER on TV, not in real life. Usually most sets look noticably worse to the naked eye than on-screen. For it to be the other way round suggests something has gone wrong...

Or it could be that the studio is too small to allow the set to be shot effectively... (Or in other words, the set is too big for the studio...)

the studio isn't too small for the set when they use studio 3, the studio I saw the episode being filmed in. Usually, studio 2 isn't much bigger than the set so that would explain the latter of your theories noggin.
I think the camera angles are bad, they should have more long shots but the crane (camera) is way too close to the set.

Hmm - but given that the set was designed for TC2...
