Not great at all - and virtually removed all evidence of the revamped theme. Hope it's a one-off and not a regular thing. Out of the less traditional version of the Blue Peter theme I would say the current is one of the best.
That cut isn't bad at all, and all the 'Barnacle Bill' theme is there - before lots of you were moaning because it wasn't!
Yeah I don't think it's bad..never been keen on having the title sequence not much more than "coming up" so nice to have a generic version! Although it does seem obvious they've just had to cut together the only two bits of titles that were actually made to surround said "coming up" bits making it painfully short!
Apart from in recent years with the filmed presenter shots though, the opening titles for Blue Peter have pretty much always been a Coming Up sequence of some form or another.
I wonder who the guest will be on the show today? It was supposed to be Gordon Ramsay and seeing as he dropped out of Paul O Grady yesterday I doubt he will be on BP today.
Blue Peter have definately gone back to how it used to be.
There's a physical totaliser this year (after last year's virtual one) and also the Advent Crown has been brought back (although it's called Advent decoration, and they're talking as if they've never had it before).
The real test to prove whether Blue Peter is properly back, will be the Christmas show on 17th December. Hope it's better than last years!
The problem I have with the show now is that they're slipping a bit into the whole going from one bit to another, then back to the first bit, then back to the second bit again.
Does anyone know if Blue Peter has a traditional Christmas Show this year? According to the Radio Times, the final programme before Christmas is tomorrow - Wednesday 17th - and there's little mention of a special programme. It'll be a shame if the tradition of carol singers and the pets' Christmas presents doesn't return. Nevertheless, I agree the programme has vastly improved since September.
It’s certainly improved since last year’s series, but is still not up to the standard it was under Steve Hocking and Richard Marson. Maybe some of the improvements are down to Joe Godwin’s influence who is now Executive Producer. He was the producer in charge of the Friday programme when it first went thrice weekly. According to Richard Marson’s 50th Anniversary book he also applied to become editor in 1999.
Tomorrow’s programme is billed as the Christmas programme, and according to TV Cream guide there “might be the return of some traditional elements this time round.” But with the whole nonsense of this year calling the Advent Crown the Advent ‘Decoration’ it seems it could be done half heartedly.
I don't know what everyone else thinks, but I would say it almost passed the test.
Unfortunately didn't include the Good King Wencelas/Christmas cards start, but included pretty much all the other traditional elements - last light on advent crown, nativity, presents for pets (and presenters which hasn't been done in ages!) and a choir at the end. Just seemed a bit more rushed that normal.
Also, don't know if it was just me but the choir at the end were dreadful and completely flat.
That being said - it was miles better than last year's attempt of a christmas show. So I would say Blue Peter is back on form, it just needs a few tweaks to make it slightly better.
