Isn't the Janet Ellis "sacking" more rumour than fact, and maybe more myth than reality. She's certainly not been airbrushed out of BP history has she?

Quote:
Nobody was thinking it was a scandal that I hadn’t married. In fact I announced my pregnancy in January and carried on presenting Blue Peter — with an ever-widening girth — until June. The bump was clear for everyone to see. It’s just a shame that the myth has been perpetuated for so long.
—Janet Ellis, The Sunday Times (November 2004)

Thanks for clearing up that myth then, I had always believed she had been sacked.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure Janet Ellis appeared on The Curse of Blue Peter on Five years ago saying that yes she was sacked...it seems a very murky subject!

I think it's only in recent years she's started going along with the " I wasn't sacked story ). And didn't she appear in one of the " Myth or Legend? " shorts on Blue Peter's 40th Birthday night on BBC Two with regards to this subject, with her son with the immortal line " And here's on I prepared earlier " or something like that...

These little shorts BTW also implied that Peter Duncan may have been involved in the garden vandalism.

Never mind slack Ellis - I still remember Michael Sundin who was sacked for having done man on man porno on a trampoline. True story - good video, too.

Sadly he took his own life some years later.

Thoroughly enjoyed the BBC Two show. Great to see Lesley Judd again. Interesting that Yvette Fielding hardly made an appearance at all - and not a hint of Romana.

AIUI this wasn't the case - he'd already left the show when his "adult" video became public. (Don't think the "adult" stuff involved a trampoline did it? He WAS a championship trampoliner before joining BP - and did trampoline stuff with the RAF on the show)

Biddy Baxter's official stance on this appears to be that the kids didn't warm to him, and his contract wasn't renewed. (Though there had been complaints, apparently, that he was too effeminate on-camera). Biddy has apparently stated in relatively recent interviews that his sexuality wasn't the reason his contract wasn't renewed.

I'm not sure that is correct - I understood he died from an AIDS-related illness, though initially this wasn't acknowledged in public.

Great to see Richard Marson stating how much he loved the programme.

Yeh the suicide quote is incorrect. He died of an AIDS related illness. For years ( outwith BP ) he was only ever referred to as having died " after a long illness ". It was only in the mid 90s it was referred to more specifically.

shame John leslie didn't appear, although he was shown in clips, really feel sorry for him how he's lost his career , all because matthew Wright didn't understand the meaning of the word confidentiality Sad

good to see lots of presenter being interviewed, Simon Groom visited the village I lived in as a child to do a piece about a St bernard breeder

A good programme - interestingly a CBBC production too rather than BBC.

I liked how on the whole they grouped the presenters together too - worked really well. And Richard Marsden really should get his job back - an error of judgement perhaps, but far more serious mistakes have been made by his replacement.

No mention of Caron Keating apart from clips Shocked

Anyone seen the Blue Peter book in the shops yet?

Interested to note that the show didn't go to full colour until 1974, only sporadically until then.

I presume BBC1/BBC2 network mainstream stuff got the nod until then, but did BP ever make a song & dance about broadcasting in colour, or 'Sorry we're black & white today'?

It did seem rather weird that there was no mention of John Leslie, Caron Keating, Yvette Fielding and Liz Barker even if they did feature in clips sporadically. And Romana wasn't featured at all.

Although they did feature Richard Bacon with his drug scandal and strangely Stuart Miles dressing up in drag... possibly an attempt to humiliate him after the hoo-ha he caused backstage before he left?

A thumbs up to the Blue Peter Megamix though.... even if it wasn't totally in chronolgical order.
