Why on earth didn't they use the original Music Makers theme edited down?

Yeah London, that was the theme I loved so well. And bring back the TITLES!

Indeed, that theme tune sort of pushed blue peter into a new era, and one of the golden ages with matt just arriving, and katy soon departing before Liz arrived.

The theme tune was a grand reworking of the original, and very different to stomps 90's version. The thing that sent out such a strong message about this was the fact that they'd remastered the ship, and a great design it was too, they weren't getting rid of the old, but representing it in a new form, something that I really loved about that package, that of course sparked the way for a superbly designed set. Add to this the editorial content during this era and it created an amazing show.

All these pages of posts and the only cap is a tiny blurry thumbnail? I remember the days when there'd be videos and tens of screenshots by now, for those who are unfortunate enough to be at work when the programme is aired. TVForum's standards going down with the BP ship maybe?

Maybe it's because in 'the old days', people were so much more inspired to capture things, but this is just like, 'oh, it's so bad that I really can't be bothered'.

This year's Blue Peter appeal has started, and, in an eiree echo of the aluminium can appeal of around a decade ago, this year it's... old CDs, DVDs and computer disks.

Launched with a marvellous world record attempt involving using old disks. Fantastic.

And the studio seemed plenty big enough for the event.

Anyway, the latest phase in "Operation axe Blue Peter" looks like it'll involve moving it to an earlier slot in order to make way for a replacement for Neighbours which may be longer than the current 25 minute slot.

I could see CBBC airing something like 3.45-5.15pm to make way for a new 45-minute programme - even if it's just moving The Weakest Link to BBC1.

I still don't understand the justification in axing the third Blue Peter too - CBBC are having to commission an extra programme for the slot, and with new commissions in most of the weeks 4.30pm / 5pm slots (which should be praised), I'd have thought a third Blue Peter would be much more cost-effective than an extra programme in the mix.

And watching last night for the appeal launch felt more like watching an extended trailer for Strictly Come Dancing!

I suppose the totaliser is handmade from cardboard boxes this year?

It's awful what they're doing to BP, it is a children's institution, obviously some big head wants to axe the programme but alas "on their head be it" if they do.

Does anyone have a copy of the new theme?

The third episode of Blue Peter was axed in the hope that some " quality " would be brought back to the show ( Shocked ) Earlier in the year the BBC were looking at putting Waterloo Road, Doctors or ( God help the rest of the UK ) River City in the Neighbours slot...

I still wait with great anticipation to see how all the carol singers get through / into the studio...

It would be devastating for CBBC if the amount of programmes was cut, but Blue Peter did used to be round about 4.35pm in the 1970s...
