Theme tune change? (September 2007)

So, opinions of this week's revamp?

I fear the end is near for BP. The new theme is horrible - in fact, it's barely recogniseable as the BP theme tune. The set is APPALLING. Konnie and Zoe stumbled through the first show like two kids on acid and the whole feel of the programme has deteriorated considerably. If the move to two shows a week was meant to increase quality then I must be missing something.

I saw with interest that Tim Levell of Newsround fame is now the editor... I would have hoped that in itself would boost quality. Blue Peter feels like a tacky teen show trying to be hip.

Is it really worse than the 1990s version? You could bearly hear the melody in that one.

Its almost got that Saturday Morning TV feel that needs background music for every moment of the show.

At least it was the actual BP theme, just played on obscure instruments.

The new one is just full of the same repeated "du du du du du du du du du du duhhh" notes with loads of **** scratchy "club DJ" type sounds thrown in.

At least the closing theme is more recognisable as being Blue Peter.

I haven't heard the new titles or seen the set, but from what I've heard it sounds awful.

From what I saw before the summer break, the presenters were OK but the items were rubbish and bored me stiff.

I doubt Blue Peter will reach its 50th birthday unless someone comes in and makes drastic changes to the format.

Just out of interest, what do people think the programme would be like if there was a live studio audience, á la Crackerjack ?

The titles are the same as the 2006-2007 series, but they now follow a "coming up" sequence which has a little BP ship in the bottom left corner. It's the music that makes it awful.

Incidentally, they *still* have the Peter part of the word-mark in the titles in a different variation of the Swiss typeface, which means it differs from the way it was shown pre-2006 and continues to be shown elsewhere (e.g. books, website, set etc.)

The closing credits are now superimposed over a "next time on BP" sequence, but has the same end-frame as before.

I've just heard the new theme tune, and it sounds like it would clash awfully with the (admittedly dreadful) titles.

My favourite titles were the ones launched in 2004, where the presenters were seen hoisting up the sail of the ship.

Incidentally, there's a Youtube video here of the recording of the full-length theme - kindly uploaded by the pianist.

Please can somebody upload some captures of the set? The whole lot sounds dreadful, but I'll try to reserve some judgment. Rolling Eyes

That video link you posted is of the theme as it was recorded and conceived back in 2006.

The new version is still by the Music Makers crowd, but it's totally different and doesn't seem to have any links to the version that Murray Gold composed.

No, that's great. Well... the capture is great, the set isn't. I really can't be bothered to explain why at the moment, I'm tired and it's all too obvious, but suffice to say it looks like another case of cost cutting.
