I saw an interview with former presenter Mark Curry on BBC Breakfast a few months ago. He was discussing whether Blue Peter can survive after the recent scandals. He agreed Blue Peter could survive, if it remained true to its history and heritage. I think losing its history and heritage will be the downfall for Blue Peter, and I would rather see the programme axed then allowed to continue in its present state.

As for three presenters not being enough - there were only two originally ISTR.

I think four is exactly the right amount.Any odd number doesn't look right.

when i was in blue peter for the christmas show, i asked one of the production ' why are the barnardo's children not singing around the tree? they said 'tim the new editor wants to bring the show into the 21 century!!'

That is sad to hear as both editors of the programme in the 21st century, Steve Hocking and Richard Marson did refresh it in their own ways, but kept the heritage of the show.

What a ground-breaking editor he is. Rolling Eyes Every other editor of every other show just does the same old traditional stuff this time of year,

Much as I don't want to launch into one of my PC rants today of all days, I have to say I was very concerned when I switched over to the end of the "Christmas" show only to hear Konnie end it by saying something to the effect of "Whatever you're celebrating, Christmas, Hanukkah or whatever, happy winter festival! ".

Staying modern is one thing but if they were still doing the advent crown until fairly recently, it proves it was as popular with the current audience. Sounds like this new editor has only taken the job to further his own career and doesn't show any genuine passion for BP.

Point taken about that but I expect that was more down to the script writers choice of words rather than a political statement and it's nice to see you admitting you rant sometimes Wink .

I saw this for the first time yesterday. That theme tune is barely a cheap parody of Barnacle Bill , the titles are horrible, and the set would be vastly improved if that screen between the sofas was removed.

I was looking at the iPlayer and got to see the evidence for myself for the first time today. I quite like the new main show theme, although I think some forumers may have had a seizure if they saw what the 'scratch DJ champion' did at the top of the show to an old theme.

Not really - if it was 'PC' (what a cliché) then she wouldn't have mentioned Christmas, would she?

Anyone know more about Konnie's departure/replacement? Wikipedia (lol) has her departure date as the 18th of January, despite BP not broadcasting on Fridays. Also, a new presenter, Felicity Croft, is listed in the presenters section. I can't find any mention or press release concerning either.

Not sure I agree - some of the classic Blue Peter presenters were trios from 1967 until 1995 - apart from the short two month handover periods (often over the summer expeditions)

With three presenters on a two day a week show you can accommodate one presenter being on a filming trip during a transmission (or these days recording) day occasionally. As BP is sometimes only in a studio two days a fortnight these days it should be pretty easy to schedule around a filming commitment.

The three presenter era includes the classic teams of :
John N, Peter P, Val
JohnN , Peter P, Lesley
Simon, Sarah, Peter D
Simon, Janet, Peter D
Yvette, Mark, Caron
Yvette, John L, Caron
etc.

More than three presenters is only a relatively recent development, and was combined, ISTR, with the move from the classic two shows a week to three?

Well historically they've usually mentioned major festivals celebrated by other non-Christian faiths in the UK - and Hanukkah has been mentioned most years ISTR.

If they had only wished people happy Winter Festival I can see your point - but they incuded Christmas and Hanukkah as well. Can't see the problem...
