I missed the last week's episodes of Blue Peter (i.e. the series return week) but caught up with it today. Where is the much hyped new theme tune? I thought it was launching with the new series? There are new titles and graphics, but the same opening and closing theme has been retained. Did they make an anouncement last week about it?
It is slightly different - most noticably a chunk has been cut out of the opening titles and now it crashes into the main theme rather than building up to it.
Also, any reason why it's now Mon/Tue/Wed rather than Mon/Wed/Fri. I think the extra CBBC episodes have gone too now as well!

Yeh, they've used the same sort of arrangement they did for 1999-2004, where they skip the "tiddle im pom pom" intro bit and just use the main part of the music, but the theme itself is exactly the same version. The new Blue Peter 2007 Annual covers the making of the new theme, and even goes so far as to say it will be used on every programme in the new series! According to Wikipedia, some chunks of it have been used as incidental music, but no sign of a full version to open the programme.
I feel sorry for the poor kids who helped make it. The producers will just be able to fob them off with "Well, we are *sort* of using it on the programme..."
Reminds me of the 1988 competition where you had to draw a cover for the Radio Times. Result - cover is of an 'art gallery' set with presenters looking at a tiny picture on the wall with the winning design on. Well, it was *sort* of on the cover...
Funny you should all mention Blue Peter, for the first time I years I found myself watching about 5 minutes earlier and couldn't believe how much it had changed, more bizzarely is how Konnie Huq is still there! Though the presenters have changed too obviously, one guy is on City Hospital the other seems to be a regular on Sky Sports News oddly...

Konnie has told CBBC that she wants to be the longest female Blue Peter presenter since Valerie Singleton. This can be seen on the new CBBC Extra video loop.
The one positive is that we're still hearing my favourite part of the programme - the closing theme tune. I was worried that they'd just use the opening theme as a closer if they adopted the new Music Makers production, but it's still the familiar finale
She is, indeed. I think she's cocked up her words and she meant she wants to be there longer than Valerie. I wonder if she's planning to beat John Noakes....
