I always find it funny that Konnie is still there. She was presenting it when I was still watching it- which is quie a long time.

All the presenters I remember leaving got a big send off - usually a studio show followed by a highlights show.

Liz leaving is probably quite a big turning point for the show. Simon, Matt, Konnie and Liz had been the longest serving team on the show for quite a while - all hosting it for about 4 years together before Simon left.

Certainly what I remember of watching the show in the 90s was that one presenter would leave every year, with their replacement normally coming in for their last couple of months. This meant no team of three presenters was on the show for more than a year really.

They don't seem to be able to get rid of Konnie though. Are they bringing in anyone to replace Liz?

According to the BBC, They aren't replacing Liz.

They are going back to the 4 Presenters, after the new additions to the show, Gethin and Zoe.

And it is about time that Konnie should leave. She had her high points, but even the best would call it a day.

Yeah well Konnie has been there since 1997, one of the longest serving. There are some who were there for about 15 years!

How long has Konnie been there, she is the one that has been there the longest at the moment.

EDIT: sorry, didn't notice the post above.

The longest is actually 13 years. John Noakes was the longest Male presenter, Valerie Singleton the longest female.

I see that Blue Peter team joined CBBC's other presenters - including Jake - for a farewell to Liz.

the blue peter website lists all 30 odd presenters with the date of joining and leaving.

somebody mentioned michael sundin, I know he died but can't remember if he was sacked or just left on his own volition

Weren't there some allegations about his private life that were swept under the carpet (and best left there seeing as he died) and he just wasn't asked to return after the summer break, rather than actually "being sacked"? As I remember, Peter Duncan came back again to replace Michael after just one series?

Michael Sundin died after presenting only 77 episodes of Blue Peter.

Apparently he died of AIDS - which was a growing epidemic at the time.

He did't die until 1989 though. His contract wasn't renewed and a few months later an inappropriate video of him surfaced.

Although most presenters get a decent send off, Liz's is particularly notable because, like Simon, she's notched up six years on the show which is good going by any decade's standards (Val, Pete and John not included).

Konnie is very soon to match (if she's not done so already) Lesley Judd's length of stint on BP which now makes Konnie the second longest serving female presenter behind Val Singleton - a fair achievement considering the "one in-one out" quick turnaround they had in the mid-late nineties.

I sadly missed Liz's last show... so much for BBC Press Office mentioning it on Monday! Quite nice they're going back to the four-presenter line-up.
