yes, they did a mock up this is your life routine with the family appearing at the end.
don't remember this much attention when presenters left years ago, we were just told at the end of a show, this is xxx's last show he/ she is leaving to do x., show a compilation of the presenters best bits and say goodbye to them (i'm talking 1970's / 80's here)
sometimes they would then introduce their successor
when did they start giving the presenter a big send off like liz got, i think it's much nicer than just saying they are leaving now, gives the viewers a chance to write in and say good bye

Well I remember that she had the cast of Flashdance or something of that nature performing the song for her last show -- and Yvette Fielding had her own special programme the next day, mostly featuring the Flying Yvette thing.
I only remember Blue Peter being on in our house for the Diane-Yvette-John period, but they certainly made a fuss then.

Interesting...didn't they do something similar for Diane Louise Jordan's last show ten years ago?

I only tuned in to watch the last couple of minutes, but it was nice to at least give Liz a big send off.
Blue Peter would usually have the cheek to make sure that the send off would be short and hardly hyped up....

They've given everyone a big send off except Richard Bacon as far as I remember.

All the presenters I remember leaving got a big send off - usually a studio show followed by a highlights show.
Liz leaving is probably quite a big turning point for the show. Simon, Matt, Konnie and Liz had been the longest serving team on the show for quite a while - all hosting it for about 4 years together before Simon left.
Certainly what I remember of watching the show in the 90s was that one presenter would leave every year, with their replacement normally coming in for their last couple of months. This meant no team of three presenters was on the show for more than a year really.
They don't seem to be able to get rid of Konnie though. Are they bringing in anyone to replace Liz?
