VIP Admin? A nice idea but I think it would sound a little daft!

As for my name, 'Asa' is pronounced Ace-a not Ass-a as many people do! Smile

And for the comment on TV World - I know there was nothing meant by it Smile. Both sites are good in their own right. Poor Jim will be wondering what's going on!

I have a BBC World cock up, it was a Sunday afternoon and Anita McNaught was still talking to the gallery saying'why aren't you guys talking to me' and when she realised she was on she said 'oh **** ' live on air, and then they cut to the BBC NEWS slide, then the static schedule, then 15 secs later she started again!

not as funny as tack newsround the other month or so.

That lezo thing was outside (anyone else hate the awful live graphic with the stupid thigs coming out) and suddenly the producer shouted OH F*CK (type it maualy or the whole word will get bleeped out) and all the sound went off, then 10 secs later it came back on with him going, THAT'S JUST F*CKING TYPICAL THAT.

on children's TV, naughty man.

and in relation to my inability to do a simple sum like 1000-880=120 I'M TIRED, I HAVE HAD NO SLEPP FOR LIKE AGES. god knows how i got into set one maths.

This 2000 Today cockup - can anyone remember what time it was, because I'll have a quick whizz through my vids to see if I've got it!
If it was aftr 6am (01/01/00) though, it's unlikely that I have it!)

I remember getting up at about 11.30 that (New Year's eve) morning!! I think it happened just after that or somewhere around 12.45pm to 1.15pm on New Year's Eve afternoon. Hope you can find it!

Well not much of a cock-up but this morning on GMTV's Get Up and Give Fiona says its time now to go to Richard Arnold in Plymouth, it then went to London and Andrea (bless Fiona!)

Not much of a cock up but BBC East - after their excellent work yesterday - opted back in to london too quickly after the regional headlines in the middle of the news at 6

A few weeks back Bill Turnbull and Valerie Sanderson were presenting BBC News 24. I think it was at 3:00pm when Bill cocked it up by saying this: 'This is Bill Turnbull....on BBC News 24, good afternoon!' He had to think quite quickly.
As the ultimate News24 fan will know, they usually say 'This is BBC News 24, I'm 'persons name''.

I remember about a month or so ago Newsroom South East finished a few seconds early so we had the music and the end of the show in full then we saw the still for UK Today for a few seconds before returning to the BBC News studio for the headlines (This was after the main edition of NSE going back for the final roundup).

Just a question out of curiousity - what would have happened here if BBC South East was still the default region?

There would be nothing on the network. But I expect it goes to a News at 6 slide

As far as I know (and that's not saying much!!) then the network can take over the network feed at any time so if Newsroom South East was sustaining feed then it would just be cut into by the network with the still.

UK Today opts-out slightly late and in slightly early to try and avoid that type of thing... I presume the still of the opening sequence is there for a second or two to allow regions to opt-in after UK Today.

Just to clear up the 'opt' terminology.

Whoever is the sustaining feed - was Newroom South East and is now UK Today - does NOT opt-out of Network. Instead they are cut up on the Network feed to every region just after the opt-out call has been made, and are removed from Network feed just before the opt-in call. UK Today therefore, does not opt-out of Network - it IS Network!

As such it would not be possible for the sustaining source (UK Today or Elstree before them) to finish early - they would stay on-air until the network opt-in junction.

If they were unable to stay on-air for any reason (technical failure) then either presentation would put an apology caption up (I have seen this in the early 90s) or if it was during a news controlled opt I expect a freeze of the opt sting would be cut up. (There was a backup 2128 UK Today trailer which was broadcast on occasions of UK Today technical failure...)

If the sustaining feed was unable to go on-air and time allowed to establish it, it should be possible for a different sustaining feed to be used. Newsroom South East is the backup for UK Today - if UK Today are unable to broadcast (they weren't able to shortly after the bomb at TV Centre) then Elstree is cut to Network instead (and then Elstree do not opt out of Network - as they are the Network!).

In the days when Elstree were sustaining, Southampton was the backup (and used to make regular appearances at 0627 on Monday mornings when Elstree had a late presenter!!!) In these cases Southampton was broadcast to both Elstree and Southampton. One fateful morning neither the Elstree or Southampton presenters turned up - and they cancelled the opt rather than cutting up Norwich (the 2nd backup) to Elstree and Southampton viewers!
