You mean the Eton/Oxford educated, son of a Lord, hedge fund owning, multi-millionaire MP who has become a champion of those railing against the ruling elite?

I still can't get my head round the idea of Blockbusters being on a channel called Comedy Central.
Mind you, channels having content that seemingly has bugger all to do with their name and/or supposed remit is increasingly the norm nowadays.
Reality shows on the "Travel" (or "Trvl" ) channel, at least one old sitcom on the "Yesterday" channel (despite it ostensibly being a history channel), etc etc.

You can't fight the establishment more than by enabling some of the richest, poshest, most tax dodging people in the country, eh?
I think that the "M" in "MTV" must now stand for something else, such as "More talking".
Quite why they don't rebrand the main channel as MTV Entertainment or whatever is anybody's guess. Ironically really the spin off channels play nothing but music but the main channel shows sod all of anything in its name. I think music was last spotted on it on April 15th 2007. By accident

Is that the excuse given for continuing to employ Jimmy Carr?

Back when MTV was still in the Music section (before the launch of MTV Music), they did have a channel in the entertainment section called MTV R, which was later called MTV Shows (which I believe was closed down to make way for MTV+1), which was very similar to what MTV is now.
