No doubt if it goes to ITV it'll be someone from the 'James Grant Clique' that gets it...

ITV don't like half-hour quiz formats any more so I can't see them taking the option. Thames seem to want to use the original theme, so I wonder if they will actually ask Ed Welch rather than get someone to butcher the tune. Such a pity the master tapes walked. Rolling Eyes

There's no reason why there couldn't be an hour long or even 45 minute Blockbusters. Just because it was 30 mins before doesn't mean it still has to be, Catchphrase went out for years in a half hour slot and was rebooted in a 45 minute slot.

Of course hour long Blockbusters may be tedious so I dare say some form of spicing up may be required.

My Prediction

Channel - ITV/Channel 5/Sky One
Host - Lee Mack/ Stephen Mulhern
Timeslot - 5pm on saturday

Or it’ll be an hour long prime time show on Channel 4 hosted by Alan Carr, Jimmy Carr or Adam Hills.

I can see it now: Cats Does Countdown Does Blockbusters”

Indeed Blockbusters is an example of a gameshow not formatted around the length of the show - they'd just end the show once time is up and pick it up next time.

There are some pretty incredible recreations of the most famous titles, in particular this one:

The Challenge incarnation got Rage Music to do the theme for it. It wasn't the best. Marc Sylvan seems to be doing a lot recently, Catchphrase to name one of them.

The Challenge version was a lot better than the 2000 Sky One version.

Incidentally, it's a little known fact that the 2000 Sky version used the exact same set as the 1997 BBC Two series, just repainted and lit differently.

They did a half hour prime time quiz earlier this year. Britain's Brightest Family?

I think repainting may even be an overstatement - some of the background elements were removed for the Sky One version, but the rest just looks like it's been lit in blue.
