Blockbusters to be revived by Comedy Central

The Sun are reporting that Blockbusters is to be revived (yet again) in 2019.

So no channel, no host... in what way is it coming back? Or are Thames just showcasing the format?

It's hard to imagine a host doing it justice. Richard Ayoade could work, or someone of a similar style given Ayoade probably wouldn't want a daily quiz show.

Challenge did a good reboot, sadly like all of their original commisions seem to, it never came back for a second series.

My Prediction

Channel - ITV/Channel 5/Sky One
Host - Lee Mack/ Stephen Mulhern
Timeslot - 5pm on saturday

I reckon it could be any of the following:

Mary Nightingale
Jeremy Kyle
Nicky Campbell
Greg Scott
Clive Holland
Peter Simon
Anthony Davis
Jon Wells

Wonder if it'll turn up in the BBC Two 6pm weekday game show slot.

Greg Scott would be a fine candidate. Mr.Simon would be tripping up over the Goldrun Hotspot step.

I expect they're planning to make a pilot, and then pitch it to several broadcasters, in the hope that one of them picks it up, or more than one shows interest, creating a bidding war (although there's no guarantee of either of these scenarios happening).

If it does become a series, it may also end up with a different presenter to the pilot.

Well it's most recent presenter quit their day job yesterday.

Such a non-story though - clearly nothing more than a production company pitching a revival. On the basis you can write a headline saying I've won the lottery.

I thought it was charmless and overly elongated. The ratings were less than good to begin with and by the end lower than what the 1992-ish episodes were getting.

Or it’ll be an hour long prime time show on Channel 4 hosted by Alan Carr, Jimmy Carr or Adam Hills.
