On the other hand, we could be left with just SD versions of Blockbusters forever more even is it is made in HD just like we are stuck with 14:9 versions of Bullseye even though it was made in 16:9.
I don't know. Challenge has finally started showing Take It or Leave It in 16:9.
Similar to UKTV, didn't they have to rebuy all the copies of their BBC shows when they went widescreen as they only had 14:9 copies?
Thinking about it, was there any reason channels broadcast in 14:9 on analogue? It just annoyed people (see here) and everything in widescreen was presumably shot 4:3 safe anyway so I'm still wondering what the point was.
Yes, well Sky tried in 2000. Didn't really catch on then....
OK, here goes....LET THE TV-FORUM SPECULATION COMMENCE!!
Who will present it? Does the 1997 / 2000 set still exist? Will they use Quiz Wizard or re-recording?
As I recall the BBC version didn't use the original theme at all and used a sound-alike instead. Perhaps they just couldn't get the rights to the original theme - AFAIK it was composed specifically for the Central version and not the US original.
The Sky version from 2000 did use the familiar theme, but it was heavily re-arranged and not a patch on the original.

I think one of the reason why both failed was the host was sitting down...
Please explain this theory?

Blockbusters was, in my opinion anyway a fairly weak format which was saved by the cult following it achieved as a result of the student viewership and the host. It only really ended as a result of the fragmented ITV framework of the early 1990s -- it just kind of dissolved because of the shuffling around the schedules to suit regional companies' whims in the run-up to contract renewals.
Unless the producers of the remake address this, the new show is doomed to fail.
We still no further forward if this is 3rd of 4th time its come back, as still on one has been able to prove OR disprove the fact Central and Anglia made a local version of the series in 1994?

Sky One revived/continued Blockbusters in 1994 and I believe this was shown on some ITV regions as well which is where the confusion that another version was made came from. I haven't seen this series but Bob Holness does host it.
BBC Two then revived it in 1997 (presented by Michael Aspel) before Sky One again revived it for a, until now, final time in 2000 which lasted into 2001 and was presented by Liza Tarbuck.
