The titles have been shortened down like the game show marathon version they do feature hexagons and a large human head? They were a blink and miss them thing for me and on the break bumpers it says "ALL NEW Blockbusters" Gaz, are the closing titles like the original with the game board to the side?

The titles today were the full length today like the original 90's version apart from 2 that were the short 'Gameshow Marathon' version. Yeah Jason, and the Endcap is 'Thames Production for Challenge'

Even up until the 1991 most of the time the credits were the shorter 17 sec one with different piece of music:

From 1990, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9UwWjIaYHk#t=28m15s you only see the first 5 sec but it same as below;
www.youtube.com/watch?v=TL9dNLkLP5w#t=13m15s

With the full music going on Fridays for hand jive. it was cut back for S10 last ITV run,

Here's a thought, say episode 40 ended during mid-game what would happen? Will they just leave it there or will they film an extra so the game gets finished?

They film plenty of "filler" material -- chats with the contestants, videos of previous prize winners holidays etc, which is then cut out of the final edit as necessary. As they get to the final few shows, they'll have some sort of idea how much material they'll need to include to pad out the running time.

Do not confuse "different piece of music" for "shorter edit" -- listening to that 17 second version you've posted, it's quite clearly the normal theme with a few phrases and also one or two individual notes cut out.

What, precisely, might you miss from it never being aired in HD?

Apart from the picture quality, Sky also use DD5.1 sound as default on their own productions.

I expect we'll see this on Sky1 HD as well. Sky Atlantic's Devil's Dinner Party is now running on Sky1 and I expect Anne Widdicombe's new Atlantic quiz show to pop up on other channels too.

You're right man. I mean, Bob's years were great... but wouldn't it be awesome if you could hear his voice wrapping around you.

If I remember well, just as with the other times the series has ended, they have ended either mid-game or before a 3rd/5th Gold Run

DD5.1 doesn't work like that. The presenter's voice would be from the centre speaker and only the audience/music would use the rear channels.

The final episode of the series will be played by Celebrities as it says in my Applause store e-mail offering priority tickets to the episode.

It was inevitable. Wasn't it? I wouldn't mind but when 'celebrities' appear on game shows they tend to act like idiots.
