Why would an entertainment channel want views of locations of the UK?

what, and something cheap and tacky probably knocked up in a couple of days with little research or consultation with viewer focus group does?

they are plain and say nothing about what the channel is about, they don't communicate anything about the brand 'itv' to the viewer at all.

Well they are better than nothing. Im just pointing out that location idents does not suit ITV1. It would be horrible going into the X factor with a view of a wet and cold place. ITV1 needs to be more lively I agree. I would much prefer these idents than the locations, thats all I am saying.

Isn't that the point. Let the programmes tell the story and just leave the idents to do their job. The job being to point out that this is ITV1, nothing more nothing less.
Basically the same as what used to happen in the 80s and early 90s, in those days there were quite simple static idents and they did the job, none of the sort of thing you get these days like the BBC1 dancers where there has to be some sort of secondary concept involved.

The trouble is ITV1 shouldn't exist as ITV1. It is supposed to be a network of regional channels with both networked and local programming. The identity of the channel is also supposed to reflect ownership.
ITV1 doesn't run (or shouldn't run) Channel 3, it's the regional companies who hold the licenses. Just because ITV plc owns most of the licenses doesn't automatically give it the right to rename all regions ITV1 and pretend it's a national channel.

If you ask me the reason why Ofcom are letting ITV get rid of its regionality is because ITV have strangled all the money out of regional broadcasting so now it is so weak that no-one watches it now. If ITV had invested money into decent regional programming then its ratings would be higher and more valued!

ITV has made its own bed and now asking Ofcom to lie in it!!!

I am for ITV1 as it makes sense. The viewer has hundreds of channels to choose from, and ITV need to make a single brand known in order to survive. It also makes sense as it saves huge ammounts of money, and these days advertising doesnt produce the highest amount of money. ITV needs to cut costs and make a well known brand into one in order to survive at all. The idents are simple, but they work, although could be better, it works and thats important, so people know what they are watching.

I still ITV should have stayed regional with a number of different TV companies (and indeed indies) provided a choice of decent programming. Now we just get downmarket Granada garbage. ITV1 is just a DTT version of Sky now. ITV2 is just a waste of space however I think ITV3 is the best out of the three, giving quality drama and entertainment and out of the three it will be the strongest.
